I am not suprised, Hilditch and the other selectors are dimwitts who are reactive and afrade of change and youth. They appear to have no insight into the future and don't set up for future plans and failing players. They can't see the obvious.

Who dropps the selectors because they need to be "refreshed".

bigcricket.com should be on the selection panel:p;)

hughes definatley deserves it. fair enough, he is only 20. but a rising star, broken records already, and proven himself totally.
if age is an issue, look at inzamam ul-haq, javed miandad, sachin tandulkar. all 15 - 17 when they burst into the scene, and look at the impact they had on the game.

Re: Matthew Hayden

u guys have to be kidding me Australia start getting challenged by the second best team in the world and people start saying Matty Hayden should retire. He's not in good form thats all but either are Symonds and Hussey but should they retire? In the transition period Australa is in at the moment we need Haydos at the top of the order and the younger guys coming into the team like Phillip Hughes can learn from him while being in the squad. Haydos has to be on the Ashes tour in England if Australia want to go anywhere and is everyone forgetting about Phil Jacques he has a spot before Phillip Hughes in my books anyways when he is back and if and when Haydos gives it away he is a walk up start

Re: Matthew Hayden

People are calling for his retirement because of his age.

His timing is out, doesnt know whether to attack or defend.

Is woefully out of touch and is a passenger on the Australian side.

That is why he should retire. If he is in included on the SAf tour and dominates with Hayden like performances then yes he should go to England.

If he struggles then he shouldnt. @|

Re: Matthew Hayden

he is just suffering poor form thats all age shouldnt matter as many ppl have said the aussie selectors shouldnt not include ppl because of age so why should people retire because of age. Hussey is suffering the same symptoms as haydos doesnt know whether to play or leave it. Its just form haydos will have a rest in sheffeild sheild cricket get some runs and CONFIDENCE with that will come form and he will be back and alll you people who say he should retire should be ashamed when he demolishes england and helps retain the ashes for Australia

Re: Matthew Hayden

Reedy your missing the point.

The guy is 37, he is playing despite it being to the detriment of the team. His form has been out for a lot longer than Hussey's and Symonds.

He doesn't look to be gaining any touch back and it is a well known fact that your skill/form decreased after you reach a certain age, he may get better, but only slightly.

Re: Matthew Hayden

I think Hayden should be dropped and replaced for Rogers or Klinger then one of that pair and Katich should be the openers for the next 3-5 years at least this gives Hughes to make the needed adjustments to his game and he can come in to the national side at 23 that would be the ideal time for mine.

The last thing I want to see is Hughes being picked and play a few matches before technical errors are exposed and he is dropped and dropped again back to Sydney grade cricket and everyone is saying " I wonder what happend to that Hughes bloke ?"

Exactly, everyone has forgotten about Phil Jacques a man who averages 47 and has made 3 hundreds in 11 tests. He is ready made and once he has played a couple of Shieffield Shield matches should walk back into the side. He is far and away a better player than Hughes, Rogers and Klinger.

Re: Matthew Hayden

Rodgers seems to be out of favour with CA. Doesnt have a contract.

Klinger has one great season surrounded by not so great seasons.

Hughes is still a little "green" Selectors like to ascertain that the player can produce thse sorts of runs over 2-3 seasons. (Unless you're Hodge :D)

Jaques is the man that will partner Katich, barring injury of course

I haven't forgotten I have been mentioning him for a while.

I know you have forgotten how to spell Jaques though . :p

Re: Matthew Hayden

Needs to get a couple of first class games under the belt IMO.

Like Shaun Marsh hit bowlers to all parts in the IPL last year but he is very ordinary in first class and couldn't see him doing well at test level.

It is all well and good to smash bowlers around in 20 20s but you also need to have grind and grit about you as well to help in test cricket.
