Re: mmvca

We are living in the biggest drought in living memory, I love having a bash on the weekend like the rest of the paddock crickets on here but rain rain and keep on raining....lets get a bit of perspective

Here is District's latest stance on covers.

The Pennant Committee this week issued an important notice regarding the use of covers. The body which administers Premier Cricket has confirmed that there is to be a change in the use of covers for the remainder of the 2008/09 season, applicable for all Premier Clubs.

Unless advised otherwise, clubs, curators and ground managers are not to use covers at any time until further notice. The only time that covers may be used will be on the night prior to the match. If this is the case, the Pennant Committee will issue notification to clubs by 12 noon on the day prior to the match and the cover to be used will be the smallest available cover only - preferably a single-pitch cover - covering the prepared match pitch.

The Pennant Committee believes that this directive is in the best interests of preserving our turf wicket tables. Below average rainfall through September and October has impacted on our centre squares already becoming extremely hard. Stage 3A water restrictions are in place and will be up for review at the end of November, so it is important that every available drop of natural rainfall reaches our turf tables. The Pennant Committee believes that, in some ways, to continue to use covers as we do, we would be negligent in our responsibilities.

All Clubs are asked to ensure that your curators, ground managers and local government are made aware of this directive as soon as possible.

Re: mmvca

Too many games are ruined by the weather and therefore points are too often shared unneccessarily. There needs to be a means whereby points can be allocated to a team should no outcome be achieved on the cricket field.

I suggest that once all reasonable attempts to commence a game have failed, the game be instantly transferred to a beach. In most cases a one-day beach contest would seem the most practical solution. Possibly 35 overs per side. This would ensure that regardless of the pitch conditions or threat of rain, a result can be achieved.

I suggest that a perimeter be marked off and remain throughout the course of the day. This would simulate a conventional game somewhat and give an advantage to the side batting first before the tide came in. It would also assist tiring bowlers with the ball skimming off the water later in the day.

I would be interested in hearing other guys' thoughts instead of the rediculous and persistant whinging and irrelevant comments being posted on this forum recently. We need to get more serious about this competition if we want it to prosper fellas.

We must be related.. All this sooking over the rain has made me sick as you have said we are in the middle of this countries biggest drought and we have small minded people getting on here a complaining about the rain!
At the end of the day it is only park cricket, most of us on here are not getting paid and are just out to enjoy a hit and roll the arm over at the end of a hard weeks work! For you guys that have complained since last Saturday i say to you all... "GET A FRIGGING LIFE"
Heres to more rain in the coming days, hopefully we dont see a few of you guys hanging from trees around the local grounds because more rain has arrived!

Don't down play your ability, surly your getting paid, I find it hard to believe your not.
Mate, its time to get a manager. I no you probably playing in the fourths but your cricket brain should be enough for at least a sign on fee and maybe say $30-$40 a wicket 3-4 $ a run.
What are you doing man, give Liam Pickering a call now, he is probably at home sitting there waiting for the phone to ring.

Jake the VTCA have compulsory covers every week unless advised to leave them off the difference being they can go on at any stage on a Friday! If council can have wickets prepared by say lunchtime on a Friday then it would be up to the clubs themselves to get the covers down when they can. Make them compulsory every Friday night with a clause that states they need to be peeled back by say 8.30am Saturday morning if the weather is fine and no rain likely. The VTCA have their own groundsman but the covers are the responsibility of the club, lets put that responsibility back on the clubs. Every one knows the rule then, we get the council working slightly in our favour and we will play more cricket. I would think the wickets would have been pretty ordinary on occassions when the covers weren't being used. I also think each club should be able to roll their own wickets as they see fit leading into a game.
cheers thanks for that , not sure if clubs could roll there own wickets but maybe the comp should have stricker rules ,if clubs want to play turf cricket you must reach these comittment standards as do VTCA , nothing against the comp bit if were playing turf we must be able to compair with other comps, not just in talent but professionalisum off the feild.

b, Merlo this week mate? What's the chances of you holding your spot, I must say that the specialist fieldsman has become an important part of a teams game plan. I've heard they have a bowler who loves the mild and weak that sit down the order just to shake them up a bit. Cricket bat this week mate or going with the much preferred tennis racket as I believe that's your game! Desperate to get some this week mate, 2 hits for zero. Kingy another side splitting post..... Hopefully by the end of the season you can actually come up with something half funny.
Im sure if you look in the mirror you will!!

You remind me of someone that would be always telling people just how good you were when really you are just a blade of grass blowing across a cricket pitch on a summers day. Now blow away before a dog comes along and pisses on you!

To simplistic Jake.

Would you put your hand up to roll yours?

I for one work 55 + hours a week and no doubt many of you are the same. Who would bother to do it? That would be the question.

Why has there been nothing from the St Andrews boys lately ? They used to have ownership of this site, and it was continually cluttered with their constant dribble and sickening praise of each-others' achievements. Is it because they were given a wake-up call last game and now realise that they are no longer the powerhouse of the competition that they falsely believed ?
The answer is YES. These blokes have paraded as the front-runners of the competition for long enough and it seems their reign is all but over, and I am not sure whether they like it. Time to accept reality guys and to stop blowing "Smoke" up each-others arse.

I'm a St Mary's man through and through but to right-off a team that has one 2 in a row and has a strong chance of winning three is stupid.

The correct question is who can challenge St Andrew's?

This is fact, interesting statement from someone in the know ????

The boys are really stuggling at the moment and will need to lift their game as to move up the ladder where they should be !!!! (tongue in cheek)

In relation to Juniors comment we were in big trouble last week, cant take away Merlo's endeavor, but that game was far from over and Punky put in a great effort under duress.

Talk to me after Christmas in relation to who, where and what we believe will be there ,come finals time.

Disregard St Andrews at your own peril and if worse comes to worse the old F.O.S took 1 for 2 off 1 over last weekend,so beware LOL

Doesn't look at this stage we will play this weekend, but if we do, good luck to all sides and i am sure at some stage we will cross paths during the year.
