Re: New Zealands tour of England

The third game is well underway. New Zealand were sent in by Ennglan and musted up a disappointing 180 from their 50 overs. It was once again left to the second half of the batting card to score all the runs as the NZ top order failed once again, clearly showing their inexperience at the top level. Grant Elliott top scored for the Kiwis with 56 while Kyle Mills played a nice cameo from number nine in the order, flaying 47 before being caught on the very last ball of the innings. No other batter scored more than 20 runs.

England bowling was pretty good, James Anderson lead the way with 3/61 but was rather expensive. Stuart Broad bowled superbly, taking 2/14 from ten overs, an effort which included four maidens. Luke Wright took two wickets with Chris Tremlett, Paul Collingwood and Graeme Swann taking one wicket each.

In reply, England are in some big trouble at 6/73. Wright fell in the first over to Mills and then Kevin Pietsersen followed shortly after. Ian Bell and Ravi Bopara combined well for a 43-run partnership before Elliott claimed the wicket triggering a collapse of 4/2 with Tim Southee doing the damage, taking the remaining three wickets which included Owias Shah and Tim Ambrose for ducks.

England have plenty of work to do here, Paul Collingwood is their last recognised batter left, he'll need a captain's innings here to see his side home.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Swann lofts a delivery from Styris straight to Taylor at midwicket. A pretty soft dismissal, similar to the way Pietersen got out.

7/129 from 36 overs.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Southee gets Collingwood, his fourth wicket of the day. Pitched outside off, the ball swings in and hits Collingwood on the knee roll. Umpires raises the finger and Collingwood is out for 34.

Great stuff from Southee, 4/38 from ten overs. Only 19 years old as well.

8/153 after 43 overs.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Broad tickles one down the leg-side and gets a very faint edge however Hopkins holds it in his gloves.

9/160, a crucial wicket as Broad is a handy lower order batsman. England needs 23 off 25 to win.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Tremlett tries to slog Elliott but the shot is terrible, nor does it go far. Vettori takes an easy catch at cover and New Zealand have won by 22 runs.

England all out for 160, Eliott finishes with figures of 2/10 and has a bowling average of only 6 after two games!! Good stuff.

So, NZ level the series, they probably should be 2-1 up but the 20-over rule cost them in game two. Still, a good effort here, the batting was flash but Elliott and Mills got them to a defendable score and it proved too much for England. That collapse of 4/2 cost them and despite Collingwood, Swann and Broad's best efforts, they fell short.

Well done to New Zealand, finally a postive in what has been a pretty ordinary tour.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

c'mon NZ @|
southee bowled very well
and mills and elliot's innings saved them big time:D

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Shah looked good before being run out for 63

As Botham was saying the English batting line up is all wrong. Wright shouldn't be opening, Tim Ambrose can't hold a bat while the guy he replaced (Mustard) hit 82 off 72 balls last time he played. Bell up teh order is a worry and Shah is too low.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

EWngland were all out for 245 in the last over. Shah remained top scorer with 63, Bopara made a handy 58, his highest score for England in ODI's. England's tail quickly folded though as they failed bat out the required overs nor score at a reasonable rate.

Tim Southee was New Zealand's best bowler once again, taking 3/47 from ten overs. Kyle Mills and Mark Gillespie snared two wickets with Jacob Oram was the only other bowler to take a wicket with one to his name.

In reply, New Zealand are 2/60. Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor were out cheaply, both falling victim to Ryan Sidebottom who has 2/37 from seven overs. Currently, the Kiwis are 2/61 with Scott Styris leading the way on 27 and Jamie How taking the anchor role with 23.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

How chips the ball back to Graeme Swann who completes a very simple caught and bowled dismissal. How gone for 37 and New Zealand's steadying partnership is now broken.

3/83, Styris is on 35. Daniel Flynn is the new man in.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Flynn gone now, didn't need to lose that one. Big Oram needs to build a partnership with Styris here.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Poor shot from Oram, plays a big pull shot from Anderson's final ball of his spell but is well caught by sub Alistair Cook at deep square leg. An unneeded shot from Oram, NZ were going beautifully until he played the stroke.

5/173 after 35 overs, crucial breakthrough for England, Oram and Styris were batting them out of the game.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Styris is run out. Elliott plays one down to third man but Styris is struggling and an excellent throw from Swann coupled with a nice collect from Collingwood sees Styris run out for 69, not what NZ wanted.

6/178, Elliott on three, Vettori is in now.
