In Quick it has pretty much cost Fairfield a spot and both Donath and YCW would have liked their chances of overhauling Cobras.

In Jika it has also effected all positions from 5 to 1 on the ladder.

Having said that your destiny is still in your own hands and has been all year.

olympic would of fancied there chance 2 baz, hopefully doesnt cost em

The exectutive has made a decision based on the health and safety of its members and not ladder positions or promotion or religation.its been 40 plus degrees for the last three days and even regardless if it doesnt get past 35 or 38 who cares, is cricket the be all and end all? as well if the executive is such a stuff up put your hand up and go on it, oppinions are just like arse holes, plenty on here

What a load of crap. If the powers to be can't atleast follow the rules they set then what is the point of having them. Regardless of how hot it was over the last week, we should be playing today. If during the day it goes over 38 then umpires or the powers to be then should step in. Extra drinks breaks taken like we usually do was all that was required. If they are worried about grounds with no shade etc, why are we playing on them in the 1st place. The last time i checked the sun in summer is generally hot.

im sure its gonna cost someone a finals spot or relegation, as soon as the forecasted temperature dropped from 40 to 37 we should have been playing no ifs or buts

If people are concerned about this decison costing them a finals spot or being relegated then perhaps their clubs should have won more games earlier in the year to avoid that problem . Its just a cop out to say that todays decison is gonna cost a team a finals spot. If you look at the results from this called off round there were only 5 games in the comp that have had a result so in real terms everything is the same as before this round.People bitching about this decision only have self intrest in it . Im sure if someone from their club collapsed or became severly ill due to the heat and they were made to play the board would be copping it anyway. They have made the right decision and people should look at the bigger picture rather than just bitching because of self intrest......Leonard

Breaking news update!!!!!!!!!!

A 95 yo man has just been knocked over and killed by a car. They say that the man shouldn't have been outside in temperatures over 25 degrees. The news station rang the NMCA for their opinion, and NMCA was quoted as saying "With the last 3 days of extreme temperature, the man should have already been dead!!!!!!!"

Re: NMCA(formerly Jika) '08/'09

The same thing happens every season in regards to clubs/teams and games close to the end of the season. Clubs will always try to peek towards the end of the season, as such todays decision certainly makes things easier for some and harder for other. At the end of the day, we play cricket in the summer, so lets play. If you don't want to play because it's too hot, then don't play cricket at all.

Does or does not the rule also state that any decisions regarding the state of play be made by 11am, the morning of the game???? Not on the 9am news....

If I was in Fairfields shoes right now, I would be wanting some clear cut answers. Thats not to say that YCW wouldn't have made the score, but I'm tipping Fairfield would have been pretty confident....

It just makes no sense at all.

if it is the right decision to call of a round of cricket when it is only 27. then we may never play cricket again. My comments have nothing to do with making finals or relegation as neither will happen to fairfield this year, so no self interest there for my club. Just want to play cricket...

Re: NMCA(formerly Jika) '08/'09

You could tell from the weather last night it would never reach 39 or whatever today.

BigLittleFishPond makes a great call. Why would they call the game off at 9am? If they had have waited two hours later they would've realised today would've never reached the expected maximum. It's just poor protocol.

I think the president of the comp should show some leadership and ask Anderson to forward his resignation. He has stuffed up "again". I heard the radio show this morning and i nearly choked on my weeties when Rick Morris suggested that there was a cool change coming in the early afternoon and Anderson was stuck for words. Do the honorable thing and get rid of this so called administrator that gets handsomely rewarded by the association.

I disagree. I think Bill Anderon has done plenty for the association i believe over the last few years the association has improved out of sight and i think the criticism over the last year has come mostly from people that liek to have a go for the sake of it and will continue to no matter what. Every time the board makes a decision they will please some and upset some. If a decision doesn't suit you or your club deal with it. the NMCA had come a long way ina short time.

That being said i do agree that this time they may have got it wrong but at the same time if the forecast was right (39 for watsonia) which is closest to my club, and we had have played in 40 degree heat the same people who are having a go would be saying it was too hot and shoulda called it off.

Lets not overreact i'm sure the executive will learn from this for next time!

Bring on finals

While I agree to some extent with what you are saying, the board are big enough to cop criticism for their decisions. Of course people are going to think twice about who is actually running the show when they fail to abide by the rules set by the board in the first place. This has nothing to do with club's chances of finals being hurt or whatelse, it's a matter of feeling we are playing under a professional administration and at time's like this it just makes you think. Calling matches off that are half way through so close to finals at 9am reeks of incompetence and unprofessionalism. You can say all you want about people being unhappy no matter what, well let me tell you, if the NMCA followed procedure like they should have today there wouldn't have been any problems. After all, we play cricket.
