He must be at least fit because he's been playing for NSW over the summer including the twenty20 final last week. Might be a chance to get back if he hits some form and there is an injury or 2, I think he's still only 31.
 
Was injured most of last season, then the emergence of Watson, Katich and Hughes put him back in the queue. His injury came at the worst possible time for him as he was playing extremely well but others have overtaken him since then. Katich will retire soon enough which will open up a spot at the top of the order. If he's playing well enough and keeps fit that spot could well be his.
 
He'll be 32/33 by the time Kat retires. If they weren't willing to give David Hussey a run in the Ashes over summer, I see no reason why they would bring Jaques in as a replacement from Katich in 6 months to a year..
 
age is his greatest enemy at the moment. the selectors are in so much trouble regarding test cricket they are bound to make more rash and foolish decisions before they begin to settle things down and find the path again.
