Re: Pura Cup Final - New South Wales vs Victoria at SCG
Turns out that this happens to be a ripper of a match.

Although Hodgey is a great player if the Vics were ever going to win or get close its the 2 at the crease that were going to need to do the hard work with both having big scores in the past against the Blues
We will most likely be ripped apart early with some dud taking 5 wickets and lose the game by 400 runs

NSW has a lot better attack than the pies the Victorian bowlers (with the exception of Siddle) have served up in this game. Third final in a row that the Victorian bowlers have failed to have any impact on the opposition batsmen, that would be a slightly worrying trend.

eddiesmith said:As for which dud, I was expecting a Clarke or Bracken or Casson to take 5 wickets as we usually gift wickets to crap bowlers

Don't forget that the last three Pura Cup seasons, the Vics have played in two finals, the one below was in 05/06. The other game you're on about was a long time ago, two seasons before that one.

Victoria 344 and 202 vs Queensland 6dec/900.
Queensland wins by an innings and 354 runs.
Last three finals have been three losses, the Vic bowlers barely had any impact in two of them and in the one-day final, they couldn't take the last wicket on a minefield.
Casson got four.![]()

Oh our 3rd last final was the T20, I know you might be trying to forget it but we wonAnd our last final before that was another one day final, not the Pura Cup final, which the bowlers struggled a bit but any bowlers would have bowling first on a flat MCG wicket
eddiesmith said:Sure we have had a couple of final losses, but every away team loses the Pura Cup final, NSW got smashed by Tassie last year, its all about the home ground
The one dayers are disappointing but the batsman failed there

Like this match we're reviewing mate the better one-day team won on the day. If anything the rain helped Victoria that day.
Anyway, apart from the 1st day, where honours were probably even, the Blues have dominated this match. Nice way to bounce back after the hiding they got last year.
Performing well in the final will usually get the attention of the national selectors, and Phillip Hughes, Simon Katich and Beau Casson will be under the attention of them after their outstanding performances (Casson his all-round peformance).
For Victoria, Peter Siddle was their best player, taking 9 wickets for the match and doing his reputation no harm. Brad Hodge also did well, Nick Jewell was painfully unlucky not to get a century in the 2nd innings, while the dishonset Adam Crosthwaite (at least in ljp's opinion), showed his selection was justifed with only his 2nd half-century and a tidy performance with the gloves.
