Skipping

Re: Skipping

I'll trip, i like the sound of looking like a good boxer, but i reckon i'd just look like a person trying to get fit, but getting fit isn't about looks anyways!

So skipping, good for you, BUT it makes you look like a little girl apperently.

Tell that to this guy: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD3uicAYtdw"]YouTube - Jump Rope Training II - RossTraining.com[/ame]

PS. Sprinting is never pointless if you are looking to get better at cricket. The faster you can run the better a fielder and batsmen you will be.

Re: Skipping

There is skipping and there is skipping!

We have all seen skipping... in the playground at primary school. Arms and legs flailing any which way; skipper sounding like a heard of baby elephants at a pajama party

Well, then there is skipping:

Best to skip in trainers on a sprung floor to prevent injury.

Combine different foot combinations to music. Add circuit exercises to make a more holistic programme.

Your arms should be straight but soft, keep your elbows tucked into your sides, with the rope turning around smoothly in your wrists. Do not lean forward, or skip too slowly, which can get you caught up in the rope. ;)

Keep your back straight, and for beginners jump two footed only a few inches from the floor, keeping legs straight but soft.

You should be light on your feet; no sound and the rope should not hit the floor!

Alternating feet when jumping is easy to learn, aim to jump a few times on one foot, then try the other foot, again without bring the knees up. Soon you will be able to go from one to the other without catching the rope.

It works the Legs and Shoulders and needs a lot of concentration :D

Re: Skipping

oooo, too much concentration isn't good for me. I can skip but reading that shows that i still don't do it quite right. Like keeping my elbows well tucked in, i have them loosely by my sides.

Re: Skipping

If you keep your elbows tucked in you have to activate your biceps. :)

If you keep your legs straight, you have to activate your abs. :D

Re: Skipping

Strewth the bloke on the video looks like the ropes passing through beneath his feet at least twice with every bounce. That's impressive. :eek:hmy:
