Really looking forward to this, finally some real cricket again and the 2 teams should hopefully be evenly matched.

Australia "A" smashed the South African attack around a bit in the tour match getting to 7dec/480. South Africa replied with 6dec/277 before Australia "A" reached 1dec/13 in their second innings.

Rob Quiney has been called up for Shane Watson who is out of the first test with a calf strain.

So Cowan and Clarke consolidate to get Australia to 3 for 111 after SA's 450, big opportunity for Cowan to go on to get a big score, looked solid out there apart from surviving a caught behind from a no ball, Clarke also playing pretty well.

Quiney sounded like he played pretty positively as well, too bad Steyn turned into Jonty Rhodes for a moment and took a great catch. :p I was impressed by what I saw from Cowan.

Is that the last straw for Ponting? Probably not.

Ponting has been in decent form up until that, besides there is not really anyone else beating down the door to replace him

Michael Clarke also gets to 200 not out without much trouble. He is leading by example.

Michael Hussey is batting well on 86 not out. He has played some lovely shots today.

So SA only 1 down at lunch still 84 behind after Australia's declaration.

Pattinson also got Amla playing on but it was shown to be a no ball when they checked the replay, that has happened FOUR times now in this match!

So the game predictably petered out to a draw. Looking forward to Adelaide, Watson's return will be a big boost for the hosts, Quiney will make way. As for the bowling I wonder if they will look at bringing in Starc for Hilfenhaus, he looked un-threatening at times

Yeah, I'd give Starc ago. Australia already have the experience in Siddle and Hilfenhaus looked very average from what I saw. Looking forward to the next test. :)

Starc should come into the team for Hilfenhaus. Hilfenhaus was down on pace and didn't have much impact with his swing bowling.

It has been reported that Shane Watson won't be picked in the team as specialist batsman, they think Rob Quiney has more to offer because he can bowl a few overs. Watson will have to be able to bowl to be picked in the team. If this is true Rob Quiney is very lucky and I think his fielding helped impress selectors.

I think a announcement on the team for the 2nd test was meant to be made today, or in the near future.
