Re: South Africa in England

I didn't think this game was starting today.

Things haven't got much better for England, they're 6/192. Alistair Cook and Ian Bell combined for 62 before Cook became Andre Nel's third wicket, edging to Kallis for 76. Kallis got a second wicket, that of Collingwood for only four and then Bell was out for 50 to Makhaya Ntini.

Flintoff and Ambrose are at the crease now, Flintoff is batting ahead of Ambrose in this innings, Freddie is on 13 and Ambrose is up to 10.

Plenty of work to do for England. The pitch looks pretty standard but there will be interest for the spinners on days four and five so Panesar and Harris will be having some fun then.

England XI: Andrew Strauss, Alistair Cook, *Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, +Tim Ambrose, Ryan Sidebottom, James Anderson, Monty Panesar

In: Collingwood, Sidebottom
Out: Pattinson (omitted), Stuart Broad (omitted)

South Africa XI: Graeme Smith, Neil McKenzie, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Ashwell Prince, AB de Villiers, +Mark Boucher, Morne Morkel, Paul Harris, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini

In: Nel
Out: Steyn (injured)

Re: South Africa in England

Ambrose edges Kallis and hears the death rattle.

7/212, Sidebottom the new man at the crease.

Re: South Africa in England

Now Sidebottom goes. Ntini's away swing proved to be too juicy and Sidebottom nibbles but edges the ball straight to Boucher.

8/215, Anderson in. It's all been left to Freddie at the bottom of the order.

Re: South Africa in England

Flintoff runs out Anderson. Flintoff pushed forward and called Jimmy through, Ashwell Prince pounced and the throw was a direct hit with Anderson short.

Anderson on his way for two and England lose a handy tailender. 9/230.

Re: South Africa in England

Oh dear, Monty Panesar runs himself out next ball. Flicked out to backward square leg for two, Panesar comes back for the second but Amla's throw is good and Boucher whips off the bails, Panesar didn't even slide his bat either. Poor cricket.

All out for 231 as Monty made one run off that last ball. Flintoff was looking good too, smacking Ntini for a four and a six before running out Anderson and then Monty ran himself out. Freddie gets red ink with an undefeated 36.

Day 1 to South Africa so far. A spirited effort from Nel who is doing a great job in place of the injured Dale Steyn. Kallis and Ntini did their bit with two wickets and then their was the running fiasco at the end.

10 overs left in the day, England will want at least one wicket before the day is over.

Re: South Africa in England

RSA have had a good day, Flintoff finished not out on 36, the tail did nothing.
Come on Poms, I've got money on a drawn series. Try and pick up a couple before the close.

Re: South Africa in England

Smith couldnt last and was dismissed with SAf 17.

Harris is the nightwatchman and banged 2 fours in the final over!

38/1 at Stumps.

England very ordinary it has to be said.

I think you're confused.

The nightwatchman was dismissed and the second nightwatchman survived. :D:p

Re: South Africa in England

A lunch SA are 2/104.

Harris was the only wicket to fall, out for 19, Sidebottom took the wicket.

McKenzie is 52* and Amla is 4*.

Re: South Africa in England

Not much progress from the last post. South Africa made it to 4/205 before the rain came to spoil the party. Before the rain though, Alma hit a return catch to Jimmy Anderson to be out for nine and Neil McKenzie scored 72 before falling LBW to Flintoff. That left the Proteas at a precarious 4/135 but Kallis and Prince consolidated before the rain came.

Hopefully the rain can clear up soon but there will only be an hour or so of play left if it does.

Re: South Africa in England

At stumps South Africa are 6/256. Flintoff has 4 wickets. Kallis got 64 and McKenzie got 72.

If England can get the remaining wickets quickly then it's game on.

Re: South Africa in England

Flintoff draws the edge from Boucher, and Collingwood drops it right in front of where 3rd slip should have been. Collingwood did well to get to it but the question is why no 3rd slip.

Re: South Africa in England

Its funny how last night Dars incompetence cost SA as by giving Kallis the life it fired Flintoff up and he was devastating

Re: South Africa in England

Boucher has just caught Cook running and diving after a top edge.

England 1/15 trailing by 68
