If the rumour is correct is there ANY point to playing him (even though he is 4 times better than there next best player?). Rumours abound that players just do not want to train at Hampton, surely you would get more value giving a younger player an extended run in the ones such as Hutton?

Not twice as good or 10 times better?... x4??? How does one arrive at such a figure?...

So listening to a bitter ex-player equates to 'rumours abound'?... Get your hand off it

SS, must have been boring sitting on that branch of the family tree at christmas dinner if all that could be talked about is who should be playing in what grade at hampton don't you think especially when the source of the comment and he who spreads it are not even members of hampton at the moment

re: South Division 10/11

Hear a rumour that Bentleigh has hit a bit of a hurdle with Chris Street unable to bowl this Saturday due to a slight injury sustained in last week’s Twenty20 final. Just a one week injury I am told so will definitely be right to bowl week 2 but could this be the first sign of the wobbles for the Bentleigh boys?

Could ne an interesting match v Chelsea, who have picked up ex County player Ben Phillips. Add him to Maggs, Lancaster, Chapple and McDonald with the bat and Eastwood x 2, Maggs and Lancaster with the ball and Chelsea have a strong side. Capable of a massive collapse, capable of beating anyone on their day (as proved in last year's finals).

Beauy v Port the match of the round - Banksia must have improved as a wicket from the last few years as it has produced some huge scores. Is this the round Daykin gets a big, big score? They will need him to for a competitive total against Beauy, who are fairly reliant on Hewett, Cockbain and Hubbard, 3 recruits.

Hampton v Brighton - Hope Hampton give them a touch up but it will be a pretty tough ask. Brighton have done well picking up Stacey Brown to add to Stewart, Lasky and co. A lot of good al rounders in that side. Time for the Poms to step up for Hampton. We've heard a lot about Walters before the season started, he needs to get a big one here.

MHSOB v Ajax - if MHSOB want to play finals they have to win and win well. There batting is outstanding this season, have they got the bowlers to knock Ajax off twice?

Chelt v Murrumbeena - the battle to avoid second last. Chelt should win due to home ground advantage.

Makes for a great round.

Wasn't much fun facing him last week with the 'pink' rock. At 6'7 and bowling at a fair clip he was a fairly intimidating sight.

Chelsea will finish 4th.

re: South Division 10/11

Chelsea would need a lot of luck to make 4th spot Super....currently abt 10pts out with only 3 games left. Would need to win all their games and hope that Brighton and MHSOB drop probably 2 each which I cant see happening.
Admittingly they are probably the 4th best side at the moment but their bad start to the season may prove costly!
Top 4:
Port
Bentleigh
Beaumaris
Brighton

re: South Division 10/11

Interesting week one results.

Beauy vs Port looks set for a cracking finish. There's been some big scores made at Beaumaris this year, so 253 is very gettable. 12 runs from the first 2 overs of the innings shows Ports intent.

Is 232 enough from Ajax at Melb High? Probably not, but it wasn't the result MHSOB were looking for. They should still win, but I think they would have been looking for an easier match than the one they have on their hands now.

My mail was reasonable, with Chris Street not bowling a ball in anger against Chelsea. Still, Bentleigh managed to knock Chelsea over for 189, but at 2/30 in reply, that game is far from over. I have a funny feeling Chelsea could provide an upset.

The last two games panned out pretty similarly, with first innings totals below par, but then those teams biting back late in the day with some handy wickets.

Murrumbeenas 122 looks very light on, but 3/35 isn't a great platform for Cheltenham to start from this week. Lamb seems to have taken more wickets than made runs this season.

Brighton have too much to play for to let it slip, but again, 2/25 wasn't the start they were looking for chasing 156 from Hampton. Mind you, Hampton will be desperate to get some points on the board and try to climb the ladder out of the relegation zone.

Disappointing effort from Port Melbourne - would have really made a statement if they'd chased that down. Beaumaris look the best team at this stage.

Melb High seem to know how to win, really need to post 300+ batting first at that ground to be any chance. Could they be a finals threat? Only just out of the four with two winable games to play.

Chelsea have sent out a statement here. Clearly Street not bowling made a huge difference. Chelsea still only an outside chance of making the four.

Murrumbeena don't seem to know how to win. Interesting second innings score - not sure what's happening with the pitch out at Chelt?

No surprises with Brighton chalking up another win, solid effort from Hampton though. Two tough games coming up for Brighton if they are to hold onto their spot in the four.

Some really interesting games over the next 2 rounds to decide the make up and order of the finals.

Beauy have play the two bottom teams, should finish top with at least 1 outright in the last 2 games.

Melbourne High play the 2 sides they are competing with for 4th spot in Brighton and Chelsea. Fairly simple, win both and more than likely to play finals.

Brighton obviously play MHSOB, but then have Bentleigh in the last round. Beat the high school and they will probably make it.

Bentleigh really need to beat Chelt big and beat Brighton if they want to finish top, but unlikely given Beauy's run home. Bentleigh have lost twice this year to Port.

Chelsea can't make it, play Melbourne High and Port. Need to win both and rely on Melbourne High and Brighton to lose both games... unfortunately for Chelsea they play each other this round. Can still impact the make up of the finals though.

Port should win the last two, but will most likely not do enough damage to Chelt and Chelsea to jump to the top. Seems Chelt will also have a big say in the make up of the Top 4.

Realistically given it is MHSOB v Brighton this week, the top 4 will pretty much be finalised going into the last round.

Predictions:
Beauy
Port
Bentleigh
MHSOB

Brighton
Chelsea

Good luck, would love to see MHSOB make finals given the amount of runs they have scored this year. Good players in the Cassell brothers joined by the Villani's have given MHSOB the depth they needed. Still think Port are susceptible come finals time if daykin doesn't fire as proven last year v Chelsea, who are certainly regretting their poor start given the recruitment of Phillips to the side.

You may be right re. Port, but they have been able to win games this season when Daykin didn't bowl, whereas Bentleigh dropped a home match against Chelsea when Street was unable to bowl.

Having said that, Bentleigh still could have won. Chelsea put on 47 for the last wicket, getting them a total of 189. Bentleigh fell 11 runs short.

The most significant thing is that Port have beaten Bentleigh twice this season, once batting first, and once chasing.

Port look flaky if Daykin doesn't get amongst them. Chelsea should win against them this week, which would mean a couple of big top 4 scalps for them over the last couple of rounds, but too little too late...

Would be surprised if the GF isn't between Bentleigh and Beaumaris. Clearly the two most consistent sides of the comp.

Will be great to see a couple of Nth sides out of Snr Div next season and the balance tipping back towards Sth. Hopefully whoever goes up from this Div can make an impression and we see 2 Nth sides go down again next season!

re: South Division 10/11

your spot on Southern Son, looks like a tight tussle out of Bentleigh and Beaumaris for the title, port melb struggles if there gun doesnt fire.
Would hope MHSOB to sneak into the four over the scum of Brighton and i think 210 is enough on the worst ground in the VTCA in Dendy Park...

As for relegation, looks as though Hampton will be dropping down to South A, would have to be the biggest dissapointment of the comp, after being in senior div last year, im sure they would of had high hopes for this season.

re: South Division 10/11

Beaumaris should easily account for Hampton's 168 and look almost certain to finish on top. Beaumaris look to be flag favourites for me if the Hewitt brothers and Cockbain continue their good form.

Murrumbeena have Ajax easily covered and have been quite competitive since Christmas. Good to see Lamb finding some form with the bat against his old side.

Match of the round down at Dendy Park and it should come down to the wire. Will 210 be enough? I think Brighton's strong batting lineup will be too good against MHSOB's attack and the result will lock in fourth position for Brighton who are a smokey for the flag. Stacy Brown has been a great pickup for them.

Chelsea should get over the line against an inconsistant Port Melbourne. Not the form Port would be looking for heading into finals. Shame for Chelsea that Phillips arrived so late.

Bentleigh should also be far too strong for Cheltenham after showing some solid batting form coming into finals. Hopefully Street's body will be right come finals time and they will certainly be there abouts.

Even without Luke Stewart?

Shouldn't be much of a factor, Stewart's batting is just handy. This match is virtually a final, will come down to the wire!

Its by far the worst cricket square in the comp, its littered with weeds, not one blade of ryegrass or couch anywhere, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was an ordinary deck.
