Subbies Thread

CV are confident that Subbies will be in within 3 to 4 years and they have agreed to a working party

Well you wouldn't say the process has gone smoothly so far. And how does that help YCCC, SCCC, the other top Senior Div Clubs in the next 3-4 years, which CV can't even guarantee? Come play in a crap comp where you will dominate while we try our best to get subbies on board. Yeah, good luck with that.

No money anymore from CV, some clubs that aren't up to Subbies standard anymore might jump ship

The dividend is old news. In the South, Moorabbin are the only club that might, and it's a big might, consider the new CV comp. 2 years ago, South Caulfield would have beaten them outright in a day. Last year, it would have been the same result but Moorabbin would have pushed it into day 2. RPB and Sunshine would be wrapped up same day against Doutta or the clubbies given their acknowledged depth issues and historical performances. Like I said, the staged restructure isn't a good fit for all clubs. It would have been better if the CV South comp had the chance to play out for at least a season before the VTCA North and West situation reared it's head, others would then have been able to judge it's success, and any problems ironed out. Even so, I still can't see South Caulfield going around in that comp next season, nothing in it for them.

I wouldn't know if he is selfish or not, he was the Captain of a Senior Div club so I take from that he has some qualities. Point is, old VTCA clubs will risk their players being poached if they are prematurely shunted into weak comps. Will the Ingrams, the Parchments, the Russells etc get the same buzz out of inferior regional comps that they got out of Senior Div? Should it come about, the 3 regional comps will lack depth and collectively fall well behind the VSDCA in overall standard. A staged restructure is not a good fit all clubs and you would think that some old VTCA clubs are going to go hard after the RPB vacancy.

You can add Will Sheridan to the above names having signed on with Yarraville Club for next season. Can you imagine him playing in a mediocre Western League!!

SCCC & YCCC were already smashing all of us in the south..
Be a nice even little local comp without them, if players outgrow it they can move on. Be good to see subbies 1sts & 2nds stay and the 3rds & 4ths join the regional comps.

Not sure about this notion that the new VTCA will be significantly less standard ("mediocre"), basically they've lost last year's Premiers South Caulfield (if they leave, still TBC) plus 5 south clubs who finished 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. If you listen to a club like Doutta who has come through the North Division to earn promotion to Senior, they say North is pretty close to Senior Div standard. Replace those 6 South clubs with North finalists Keilor and Druids and perhaps some others like Spotswood and Airport West and that comp is still very strong.

Yes the top end of Subbies is strong, but there is dominance within the top tier of clubs, and some real strugglers in the bottom half. 50% of clubs have not made a GF in the last 10 years and do not look like being close as the bigger clubs get bigger (eg Rummans to Caulfield)

My comment was based on the assumption VTCA splits into three regional comps. If North and West stay together then the new Senior Div will be quite strong. If they split into North West and South, all 3 become weaker.

If the VTCA falls over, a lot will depend on the extent, if any, CV will bend their Taskforce aim of aligning clubs with municipalities. Keilor is in Brimbank as are Keilor Park and Taylors Lakes, and are presently in the indicative North League as are the 5 other turf clubs in Brimbank, namely, Deer Park, Sunshine Heights, Sunshine United, Grand United and StAlbans, the latter 5 all former SCA clubs. CV's Taskforce intention is that all Maribyrnong based clubs be in the Western League and Druids is within Maribyrnong. In an earlier post, I stated CV may have to transfer the 8 Brimbank clubs to its West Division just to give it sufficient teams to be viable given the 7 subbies clubs in the west not participating. What a mess to be sorted out if the VTCA falls over!

That is a compromise that could actually work, just my opinion, not sure if all Subbie clubs would agree. Certainly the ones struggling for numbers would embrace it.

Went well, Dodemaide spoke well as did the other CV reps. It looks like with the South competition going ahead CV will wait for one more year, so the VTCA in the North and West will be intact this year. It looks like being a 12 team division, but a few of the Senior clubs wanted an 8 team Div.
It was a good meeting that wasn't interrupted by the Presidents wife for once.

Any idea who the 12 teams will be?
Makes sense rather than 8!

Where does this place South Caulfield; was it indicated if they will hang around for another year in the VTCA? At least they now appear able to make an informed decision on what is best for them long-term. Can I presume the question of whether they can apply to join the subbies without CV approval was not raised?
