Stoinis genuinely doesn’t warrant selection over Green.

Stoinis since Greens ODI debut:
Batting average- 17.58
Bowling average- 38.27 @ 5.31RPO

Green since his debut:
Batting average- 35.18
Bowling average- 41 @5.72

Stoinis has been a marginally better bowler but not enough to warrant averaging the same as Starc in that period (17.25), without also averaging 18.3 with the ball (!). Stoinis is not a batsman.

No otherwise he'd have had a decent Shield career before moving to white ball. Stoinis is nothing more than a see ball hit ball batsman and is becoming prone to see ball miss ball more often the older he gets. On the other hand Green with a younger eye and more power can hit the leather a long way. I recall him putting a very good India Test attack, Bumrah mostly, over the fence repeatedly for a quickfire 70 with a declaration imminent. We have also seen him doing similar in domestic one dayers.

I looked further and Cummins and Hazlewood both average about 6 more with the bat than Stoinis since Greens debut. They also average 15 less with the ball.

We’d be better off playing Cummins at 6 and adding another bowler than playing Stoinis.

He’s averaged less than Hazlewood with the ball since Greens debut. That’s pretty much around Hoffs white ball resurgence.

Hazlewood is pretty good.

I want JH to step down from white ball to give him greater Test longevity. But he says he is comfortable playing both formats. Do they breed them dumb in the bush as it was a lay down misere that it was all the white ball he played on top of Tests that saw him wiped out of the game for two years.

I’ve chosen allrounders, bowlers and wicket keepers.

There is 3 players with a worse batting average than Stoinis in this time frame:
Starc, who averages 0.33 less but also averages 18.3 with the ball
Zampa, who’s a proper No. 11, still only averages 3.14 less. Averages 24.8 with the ball.
And Inglis, who has a tiny sample size, but still has a higher top score than Stoinis and had scored a 50. Averages 1.44 less.

Of non-specialist bowlers, Stoinis is the only person in the squad to not have scored a 50 since Greens ODI debut (2 Dec 2020).

Green actually has the 2nd highest batting average on that list, only behind god emperor Head with a stunning average of 60.84.

Stoinis is THAT shitty bowling allrounder that can’t even really bat that much but also can’t bowl.

Excellent analysis. Those averages are for white ball not red ball. Yes. You may need to recheck JH's batting average tho, @24???

Yes those are for ODIs only since 2 Dec 2020 (Greens ODI debut).

And yeah, decent chance he has a ton of not outs. Although he does actually bat pretty decent in ODIs lol.


And yeah he has 8 Not Outs from 11 batting innings lmao.

Australia First Test squad: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh.

Is now official with Warner picked for the Pakistan series. The selectors are a sentimental lot, all former players, permitted him to name his own swan song even tho his record past two years has been abysmal.

Mitch Marsh 35 Tests since 2014, career @27, 3 tons 4 /50s in 61 innings. How in any universe is that Test standard. Hopefully Greens superb 96 the other day will see him leapfrog this perennial dud.

Lance Morris is back but no Spencer Johnson. Seems to have gone walkabout since being picked for ODI WC.

I reckon Morris has just been a better test bowler than SpenJo anyway.

Morris had a strike rate 5 balls less than any other bowler last season, which is insane tbh.
