The Lounge 2

Anyone know the sad story of Peter Falconio? A horrible tale in the Outback.
Not much, just that he was an English man backpacking Australia with his then girlfriend Joanne Lees who I believe her name was. They got into a big predicament with a Mick Taylor wannabe called Bradley John Murdoch who spotted them somewhere like a gas station then he stalked them and somehow captured them both after he signaled to them to pull over whilst they were driving he then tied them both up then this bloke BJM took her boyfriend off in the bush and killed him but somehow Joanna survived and escaped then alerted the authorities after she flagged someone down on the highway. They think this nutcase who killed Peter dumped his body out in the desert somewhere, they've never found his body to this day because he BJM would never admit to doing the crime despite Joanna identifying as the culprit and murder.

Very interesting, Terry. I'll get back to that soon.👍
Congrats, Terry, that looks like a pretty good job and must give you a lot of satisfaction. Getting rid of all the cords is definitely helpful and makes your workplace look tidy and inviting. I may have shown you my workplace at home but am doing it here again for comparison. Admittedly, the cords I spared have been replaced by those of external drives but they aren't always plugged in. Having a notebook is much better than a tower unless you're a gamer.

I'm currently working on setting up a more convenient backup facility using Filesync and on encrypting either drives or files with VeraCrypt or Password Folder which all come free of charge since I haven't taken that seriously enough. As a part of this process I spent some money on MS Word 2024 for there's no support for my old version which might be a safety risk.

Too bad you caught a sinus infection, Terry. The dust in your home can't be that infectious but having gone through that should really make you careful when cleaning up sheds, attics, and the like since that dust could really be dangerous . I always wear a FFP2 mask.

Thomas has Germany been following the Carolina Wilga story, missing in remote Western Australia after her van became bogged. Was then found by a local farmer and has spent last five days in hospital recuperating. She is a very lucky girl.
Yes, Germany has indeed. I've made my daughter aware of the risk since she's currently south of Cairns and intended to leave the beaten track... Route1.png

That's a nice office set up Thomas. I like your curved desk.
I have masks aplenty but stupidly didn't wear one. Lesson learned.

My old tower computer was set up for the gaming I used frenetically with heaps of ram and a great graphics Nvidia GT660 brick that weighed about a kilogram. Not anymore. I now prefer more sedate puzzle games which my tablet does very well.

From your daughter's itinerary travelling north in Queensland she probably went through or past Mount Coolum where my youngest 40yo daughter lives with her husband and their twin baby girls. A port in a storm perhaps. They put up my cousin, his German wife and their 4 kids. Good people, good family.
I'm guessing your daughter is headed for the Daintree Rainforest which is an amazing place. That's a place I regret never visiting myself.
Keep in touch of course with her and her travels, just in case. Keeping to main tracks, watching the weather, phone signals, ... and lots of supplies. Certainly spray on Insect repellent, ... especially for the mosquitoes now more and more virulent. Other bugs too, and deadly snakes, crocodiles, ... , sharks, jellyfish, ...
Sorry for spilling out my own fears and cautions about that part of Wild
Australia, but it's best to be aware and be prepared.
It'd still be a wonderful experience for sure.

Thanks. I bought in this shop which you have in Perth, too: IKEA Perth
Right now they're offering a workstation only.
I've always preferred corner desks and in my room it's just perfect.

I also appreciate your advice, Terry. It's better if she hears it from you than from me. :)
What you're saying fits in with her own observations in your wonderful country. I'll share that with you all asap.

This has been on our news recently since the murderer died. Joanna was under suspicion at first, especially by wearing a tight top during the news conference, apparently she didn't look like a grieving girlfriend, poor girl was in shock and very lucky to escape.

I think this was on our news, I heard her name being mentioned but didn't quite catch what was going on. Glad she's ok though, must've been awful for her.

That's correct she was perceived as making the whole story up first.
