The Lounge 2

For our Dog Lovers:
ed dogs thousands of years ago
The diversity of modern-day dog breeds might have emerged thousands of years ago. An analysis of ancient skulls reveals a distinctive dog skull shape — a shortened snout and widened face, compared to wolves — first seen in nearly 11,000-year-old fossils. Not long after, researchers say, there was a boom in the variety of dog skull shapes and sizes, capturing more than half of the diversity in today’s breeds. An analysis of the genomes of ancient dogs also suggests that ancient humans valued distinctive features, took their canine companions with them when they moved around and traded dogs with useful characteristics. 🐩🦮

Half a century has now passed since then-Governor-General John Kerr used constitutional powers to oust a sitting prime minister. And there remains a chance it could happen again in modern politics as there has been no Constitutional amendment in the intervening 50 yrs to restrict or remove these reserve powers – nor reform to enliven new powers to proclaim our national independence.

This is an embarrassment and a change in our Constitution is the only way that a Leader elected by the Australian people can not be sacked by what is written in an archaic document of a foreign nation. Wake up Australia and bloody well grow up too. This is the 21st Century!!

I agree Craig, and well remember those torrid times.
"God save the Queen, but who will save the Governor General" comes to mind.

What if we totally thrash the Poms in the soon to start Ashes Series, and in spite the UK gets our GG to sack the Australian incumbent governing labour party! 🤣. In yer dreams nowadays you'd think but the loons abound more than ever. Fail to praise the Don and not falling in line has surly consequences.
Still, you got me thinking Craig. To remember the cur Kerr and what happened, to stop such cur crap recurring, I'm thinking much more favourably to Australia becoming a Republic.
Yes, but I still like most of the British monarchy. The ability Charles III has to speak freely rising above politics is what I'd hope for our first President of Australia would have too.
I can't even remember the name of our current Governor General ... A President I would prefer,
but please not Barmy Joy's... or Poorlean.

I like the idea of a President as more of a diplomatic Statesperson. Little abilities or influence in Goverance?
We don't want to be like the US. Imagine Pauline Hanson being our President! 😄 Or Bony Abbutt, Murk Laftlane, Moronson.
Pauline would do a better job than any Orange Donut Clown ..., even being a firey Red Head herself. There's no doubt many of Austailia's best could fit that role most admirably.
I find our Pauline entertaining and informative of hard right political narratives in Australia. Better the Devil you know ...
My two grown up daughters are right-leaning politically so we tread lightly and agree to disagree. I won't let poIitics strain family bonds, similar with good friends. Agree to disagree, except with ignorant narrissist fascist racists, anti vaxxers, purveyors of disinformation and lies, ... malicious idiots basically ...

Definitely. Only a titular position like in Europe. But ultra important as an Australian figurehead we can all be proud of.

🤣Murk Laftlane, Orange donut Clown?

Good for you Terry but fear I'll have fallen off the perch before it happens. So much pussy footing by previous govts.
Fair enough falling off our perches Craig. Time to play our own tune, and the Poms respect that. Maybe they're tired of us hanging off their apron stings. I doubt that.
We'll still be close in so many ways like with Global politics, the Commonwealth, same language, trade and numerous other commonalities like a Westminster. A very shared history too.
AUKUS too but which may be abbreviated to AUK. 😅 🤏

But with our good alliances we could make that acronym much bigger. Say with Japan, Korea, Vietnam Phillipines, India, Indonesia, PNG, ... NZ, ... which is a bit like scrabble.

And the Australian cricket team. Then it will be the greatest shit fite between us and the Brits since BODYLINE.
May the best team win. The first of 5 starts in my city of Perth and our wicket is very fast. Lillie liked it. It's great listening to it on my radio as I do my chores.
Later I love watching the highlights on tv.
I heard there 's a number of young and upcoming players joining the Aussie Ashes list. I like that and good luck to them all.

Now you are playing my tune Terry. :thumbsu:

We love thrashing the Poms on our Aussie soil and do it often. Last time they beat us at home was a decade ago before that 25 yrs.

DK would have meant the old WACA ground Terry. The magnificent new Perth Stadium is just as fast and bouncy and will be as hard as rock on the Pommie bowlers feet. Hoping Perth also turns on sweltering weather over the five days and melts these lillie whites.😆

Not as many as should be with selectors hanging on to too many 30 somethings. Poms prob calling us Dads Army. 😜 If you wanna see some of our best up and comers there is a CAX1 match on same time as the Test. Is being played at Lilac Hill and likely be live streamed by CA website.

I still like the incumbent sensibly Royals who mostly champion so many worthy causes. I deeply respect Chales III for his free and clear voice on issues like the environment, and likewise William's, the heir apparent. They say it as they see it with the liberty of not needing to be elected.
Of course there are the black sheep like handy Andy.

But with the Kerr cur doing the outrageous I cannot abide any more the dark power of an AG. Maybe memories of the English foot on the neck of my Ireland for about 900 years sways me too. That's old History but ... the undercurrent still exists, but thankfully diminished in recent decades.

Happier now about full self determination without strings. Commonwealth games are always ok.

A close friend with Goff back then. That's not her real face. Gof and Julie ed(1)(1).jpg

It starts tomorrow, Friday. I'd like to watch it or listen to it on the radio. It starts at 1:20 pm Perth time or 4:20pm Sydney time.
We Sandgropers are always behind the times. We don't like our curtains scorched! 😉

On another tangent, I'm tired of getting overwhelmed with all my IT issues. It takes up too much of my time. I'm also helping out two declining elderly friends with mostly their IT issues. Spam, scams, apps, basic computer literacy. reinforcing security for one account needing me to get a PassKey? It's confusing and I'm tired of all the changes and new tech, but keep at it nevertheless ... as best I can.

It's confusing and I'm tired of all the changes and new tech, but keep at it nevertheless ... as best I can. We must but I really like the help I get from AI's. I like Meta the most. Especially asking it strange question like "Why is a mouse when it spins?"

I just noticed something that was staring me in the face. I have been stripped of my moderator status. Is that because I kept on and on badgering the admin boss over issues affecting us members. Gotta tell y'all it was like bashing my head against a brick wall. I was a super mod now am a well known member like you guys.
