Crikey, what a first day for the Start of the Ashes. Aussie fast bowler Stark got 7 wickets I think.
Wickets toppled and Australia came in and too did poorly with batting..
It was a big record day for the bowlers since 1932 ... ?.

I stumbled into a podcast from a Psychologist about Trump.
Basically he was saying Trump is a malignant narcissist, with sadistic tenancies! 😯
I see that now, about how he likes to make people suffer like tarring percieved enemies and taking away security details. Like Republican Senator Marjorie Taylor-Green who was vocal about the need to release the Epstein files, ..

Vengeful, multiple felon, litigious, a bully, a huge Liar, graceless, ignorant, self serving, ... fragile soft underbelly always needing praise, a poor moral compass, .. lacking empathy, .... it goes on.... and on . .. . . , but cracks are appearing, like the Epstien files, but also Trump's health and more alarming his mental decline, having many indicative lapses caught on cameras even recently in Japan.
English King George III lost his marbles aptly named the "mad King ".

Remember Nero who played a fiddle as Rome burnt.
Morrison who went on holidays as Australia burnt.

I hope the good people of the US will eventually all see what a dreadful President they elected, and learn from that massive mistake that has not only greatly adversely affected the people of the US , but the whole world too, with the rambling unpredictable train of chaos Trump has driven the world off the tracks.
At such a critical time globally with wars, global warming, inflation, inflated prices mostly to US folk from self inflicted tariff taxes, ... , why now for God's sake, is Trump on such a loud global centre stage. I heard its best to just ignore narcissists but that's hard to do with Trump.
In Trump's case, "Ego is a dirty word".

Who sang "Ego's not a dirty word"?
It's an old Aussie favourite.

Yep ball definitely dominated bat. A bit too much juice in the Perth deck me thinks Terry with 19 wickets falling on first day of an Ashes Test, a record going back more than a century evidently.

Our best express bowler Lance Morris would have played this series had he not still been recovering from back surgery. We sure needed him yesterday to ruffle some Pommie feathers.

A two day test! Absolutely amazing and a great win for Australia! Stark and Head were brilliant. They should each get Player of the match award!

So how fast is the Perth Optus stadium Cricket pitch?
Googled:

Regarded by many as the fastest, bounciest cricket pitch in the world, the intimidating surface combines with wind and baking, dry conditions to test every batter's technique to breaking point.
Except for Head batting. 👏

It certainly did on Day 1.

...and some of the most atrocious Test bowling I can recall seeing. They fed Heads strength ball after ball.

What do you think about the military conscription issues currently in Germany? Not too popular I'd guess.
No, it's not, Terry, but this will surely change the more aggressive Russia becomes. Not surprisingly, the whole population is divided, not just on conscription but also on the underlying question of whether Russia might attack eastern Europe and Germany. What's new is that girls are now expected to make a contribution, too, either by joining the forces or by working in community service as a carer, which boys can opt for as well. That's why military service is not compulsory yet. However, if it turns out that there are not enough volunteers, it might become mandatory. Personally, I wish I'd had that choice since mine was one between army or jail including not being allowed to study. Needless to say that there is a fundamental difference between being forced to fight for a repressive regime and defending a free country. Still, I wouldn't have wanted to die on the battlefield which is why I'd probably have done community service. This is what I say at the end of my life.

The pattern of such conflicts would seem to be volunteers initially and then conscription with penalties. Australia had conscription with the deeply unpopular Vietnam war.

Young Germans having the option to work in community caring seems a good and intelligent option rather than doing Military service.
Just thinking of the current dreadful deaths on both sides in the Ukraine war, it must be unerving for many to watch as Europe is tooling up militarily, especially if one is a young fit male.

I am uplifted by the unwavering support of Ukraine by their European allies, specially Germany Thomas, in the face of more threats and coercion by an increasingly deranged Trump over his clear support for his buddy and puppeteer Putin.

Yet if Trump succeeds in hammering out some sort of truce followed by some sort of a dictated peace treaty, this deranged bloke might indeed be thought eligible for the Nobel Peace Prize which he's been after for so long. Poor Ukrainians...
