Toes

Re: Toes

The differences in world cricket! :p

Artificial pitches are frowned upon in the Uk, at least from my experience. They have their uses but mainly for training purposes.

Re: Toes

and yet artificial pitches are all i know! :p
there used here to allow as many games of cricket to be played on the weekend as time would allow

Re: Toes

Have the bats had any oil applied to them? That's normally enough to repel most cases of damp, unless you're batting in very damp conditions (think rain) for a decent amount of time.

Re: Toes

I think, but im not sure, but i think he is talking about artificial pitches, which hold water like you wouldnt believe, and oil wouldnt do much to keep the water out

Re: Toes

spot on jimmy.... unless ur playin top end cricket down here... u dnt get the chance to play on turf.... we get stuck with synthetic.... so it can get fairly wet.. tapping on a damp pitch kills the toe without a gaurd..

Seniors play on turf...

If your club doesn't play on turf in seniors, move to a sub-district club.

Re: Toes

im in an opens team..... we still play on synthetic.... no park side... snrs or jnrs play on synthetic... youre right... i have 2 go 2 sub district to get on turf

Re: Toes

Man i met this kid from down south, from Perth, and he says he gets to play on turf in every match! And he is younger than me! Guess its one of the perks of going to a private school

My club is sub district :D

Just have to get into 4ths and we're on turf :D :D

Re: Toes

Well I don't play seniors or u15 hatch, so I don't really know, although I think a lot of grounds have two ovals, one synthetic and one turf. Well at least some of them do.

Re: Toes

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'd like to add my views on this.

You definitely need something to protect the toe if you're playing cricket in England, I've seen many bats come in for repair and the toes have swelled to massive degrees.

What I do is put a bit of Yacht Varnish on the toe and 1cm up onto the face. Then the very bottom just a bit of Waterproof PVA.

Re: Toes

maybe they should not use their bats in the rain or on wet pitches! Or heres a new one! dont smack your bat on the ground when its wet.

Not only does this get yout bat wet but damage the pitch.

Linseed oil is all you need to protect your bat. ::)
