what bat do you use?

Re: what bat do you use?

I have finaly got to use my Bulldog Growler. I had only faced a handful of balls in my first game when I noticed that the toe guard was flapping only to discover that a thumbnail size dent about 5mm deep had appeared on the bottom left hand corner. I was not a happy sausage. I filled the dent used it yesterday and in huge amounts of pain due to slipping and hurting my ribs, hit my first ever six (I had to avoid running as I couldn`t breathe all that well).
Needless to say it was in vain as we lost by 100 runs in damp near dark conditions, even though I was up at 4am unable to sleep with my ribs hurting, I had a great day can`t wait till next week now I know there is a middle to go with all the edges!!!

Re: what bat do you use?

can i ask what you meant by filled it? a dent is a dent i would leave it as chances are it will fall out anyway!

Re: what bat do you use?

It was a dent. A compressed bit of bat about the size of my thumb nail with cracks on the face up from the toe guard about 3 cm along the top of that by about 2cm and on the edge it was in about 1cm. When I say filled, I gobbed it up with super glue, rubbed it down, covered it with tape and it was good as gold. I don`t know how it will hold up (I can guess though to be honest) next time a ball hits it on that corner again but if/when that happens it`ll either hold up or be the most expensive match wood I`ve ever owned.

nice bat, how does it play? yuvi is one of my favorite players, and would like to get one. BUT i'm pretty awful with the bat, so I don't know if I should be spending $200 + (US) on a cricket bat....

My new bat selected from about 30 bats which I'll be launching in my new brand. This ones 15 grains, 35 mm edges and weighs just under 2lb 10oz

Re: what bat do you use?

Nice looking bit of wood that. Not a fan of the white stickers if I'm honest.

Looking forward to see what else you'll be offering in the range.

Re: what bat do you use?

Yeh the stickers won't be to everyone's taste and I've had both good and bad feedback on them so far; it's all a big learning curve though so all is appreciated. They came out plainer than hoped on the front as the design was a bit different but it seems the printer missed those details. Trying to keep everything quite minimalist though, lots of brands have the large front stickers (which are also very useful for covering imperfections!) and flashy logo covered pads. I hope to town my gear down a bit, I've been selling bits of plain gear and that has gone well so made sense just to brand it all and build up a nice company rep.

The willow itself I chose due to the size of the bat and the feel in my hands, felt very light but mighty impressive profile and grains.

Re: what bat do you use?

I agree with you on flashy logos etc, unless they are really well thought out they tend to look a bit crap and ten a penny nowadays.

The Itias and the font used look ok, it's really the white background that ruins it, but as you say, it's a case of trial and error at the moment. The main thing is that the stuff doesn't look look like a throwback to the 80's, which was a big problem with some stuff that I helped launch - the owner just wouldn't listen to any reason for a few years and it really held the brand back.

Who did you use for stickers?

Re: what bat do you use?

Company called 'AdCal Labels' it's over £5 a set of labels, but they're the only company who could get the chrome effect at a decent price. Also I only wanted to order 50 sticker sets, so that limited me a bit on suppliers. There's a few people in India or Pakistan who could have got them done a fair bit cheaper, but then I run the risk more of printing errors and import tax.

Re: what bat do you use?

£5 seems a fair enough price, especially considering the numbers, colours and chrome. To be honest for some things I'd rather go local, printing being one of them.

Re: what bat do you use?

Yeh £5 is fair, however there are some bats I've had made and the labels are actually more expensive than the bat itself!

Re: what bat do you use?

I`ve just bought a Slazenger Pure Blade Elite from Sports Direct for £70 (rrp £140). I was going to get a Warsop kit bag but couldn`t resist, its a big bit of willow 2lb 8oz according to my scales.
So I now have Bulldog growler (pictures posted somewhere on this site!!), Pure Blade Elite, Pro Blade Panther, and a 20 year old Newberry something or other that when I removed the plastic cover was still in mint condition!!!

Re: what bat do you use?
