your dumbest rule

well, as a new season starts to roll around, i thought i'd freshen things up here a bit with this thread.

now i know i am not the only one who makes up the rules as you go on :)

my dumbest rule- when i am playing with the lady, and i keep bowling here, an out only counts if i get two in a row.

like i said in the title, dumbest rules :D

(more to come in coming months i am sure)

Re: your dumbest rule

6 and out, not that dumb, i just always go overboard slogging and lose all the balls

Re: your dumbest rule

- 2 bounce kick/catch (after the ball hits the bat and it bounces twice the fielder then proceeds to kick the ball up and catch it 1 handed and the batsmen is dismissed.)
Note: mainly just used when numbers are low

Re: your dumbest rule

Hit any window on the full..

This is a 'prick' of a rule in my backyard as it has denied me of a fair few tons.

The brother decides to bring on the spin attack as your 82* and throws one up delibratly.

You have your eye in however you advance down the wicket and miss hit it straight into the window.

You not only walk of very dissapointed just shy of a century, but you cop a spray from the mother when you come in at lunch saying the window almost broke..

Re: your dumbest rule

This is more a cool rule than a dumb one, but it is unorthodox so it deserves to be mentioned. At my cottage where we play, the 'ground' is very big, but also has many large evergreen and birch trees. Some of these are far away, others are standing close, at approximately mid-on and point positions. Rather than make hitting a tree an automatic out, which would be unneccesarily harsh, we have a better way about it.

The ball is live on or in the trees. This results in many fielders hurling themselves into the branches in an attempt to get to the ball before it falls out of the tree. The greatest moments, however, are reserved for the times the ball stops on a high branch in one of the pines. That results in a fielder climbing up while the batsman comes over and tries to knock it out (we decided to allow the batsman to hit the ball twice as it is, in essence, trying to prevent a wicket). If the batsman suceeds in knocking the ball out, they must then get back and make their ground before the fielders can recover it. It is intense.

2 bounce headbutt

Re: your dumbest rule

The worst rule for me was playing at my mates house and it was hit the grage on the full and you're out. Seems ok but given that the garage is no more than a metre away from my off side i would get my turn to bat and would go out when the smartarse puts it onto my offside , drawing an edge into the metal door.

Re: your dumbest rule

Hills Hoist pole on the full - OUT!

Hills Hoist pole on the bounce - 10 (and not out).

Note: Hills Hoist is planted at a short cover position.

Re: your dumbest rule

Hit it on the leg side wall(60cms away) on the full OUT!
One hand two bounces
Into the Dog Kennel 50 runs
3 misses in an innings OUT
Wide is any ball outside leg stump.
Into the pole next to bowler 10 runs

Re: your dumbest rule

In the pond and out . . . see the ball dribbling towards it and you have to cancel your run and try to save the ball from rolling into the drink . .

Frustrating :D

Re: your dumbest rule

Well, it is not strictly backyard, I mean we played on a basketball court, but if by chance you hit it in to the basket, thats a double 6. Happened just a few times but it was cool when it did

well said paul. pretty much sums up what i was thinking exactly.

Re: your dumbest rule

if the batsman is holding a beer or other such drink, then anything other than spin is a no ball. if the drink is non-alcoholic, then this rule doesn't apply.

if the batsman hits the ball and the ball hits and spills the (alcoholic) drink of the bowler or any fielder, then the batsman is out and misses his next innings

we use empty cans as fielders, who may field on the pitch if the bowler so desires

if the ball is up in the air for a while, then the fielder who is to take the catch must finish whatever drink is in their hand before taking the catch
