Akram was amazing as an allround bowler, but really there has been many over the years and the changes in cricket. McGrath was good and i admire his achievements but he never excited me as a player, i found bowlers like McDermott, Dilley, Dev, Roberts all amazing bowlers, not always the best of their time but they had something that i enjoyed to watch and learn from when i was bowling.

what about muralidaran

I loved watching the intelligent bowlers like McGrath and Pollock bowl but no one quite excited my like when Shane Bond was bowling to the Aussies in any format. He use to give me goose bumps when he was bowling really well haha.

Am I the only one around here who thinks Shane Warne was by far the best bowler in the history of the game??? I'm a big Murali fan too, but how can none of you even mention Warne in this chat? Maybe I should refresh your memories of the great Aussie spinner...

Haha. I don't know of anyone on here disagreeing with you. :p

:DI'll admit that I'm a spin fanatic, but still appreciate good fast bowlers...

Why no Steyn? He hasn't retired yet but I'd put him on the top of the list! He gets so pumped up when he bowls, and I can't think of any batsman in the world who isn't deep down afraid of him when he gets angry!

If I was forced to forget Warne and Murali ever existed, the bowler I'd go for is Mcgrath. He's the closest to a spinner, really boring, but I like his style.

Haha. I was just answering your question about Warne being the best spinner of all time. ;)

My favourite fast bowler was Shane Bond but that's mainly because of bias I think. :p I liked Brett Lee, Shaun Pollock and Glen McGrath too.

Who doesn't like Brett Lee? You've got to appreciate all the effort he put into bowling! He broke his back (among other things) just to give us some entertainment. (But I'm sure he enjoyed every minute of it)
In my opinion Mohhamad Amir of Pakistan was going to be one of the best fast bowlers of all time:D 600 test wickets + ... But we all know what happened with him:( Maybe Trent Boult can replace him?

In all formats it's Akram, if it was broken up I'd go for Warne in tests, Bond in ODIs and Steyn in T20s. Skill wise Akram was the complete fast-bowler, any swing, seam or cut wasn't beyond him, even partial to the odd slower ball as well. I think it was Steve Waugh who said that they had no actual plan to combat him other than to just hold him out and hope like hell he gets frustrated! http://
