Your Test World XI?

Alright so this one is for what you think should be the Test world 11. I don't want people arguing over it as it is totally opinion based. Mine would be:

G.Smith*
G.Gambhir/S.Katich
K.Sangakarra+
J.Kallis (Designated all rounder)
S.Tendulkar
S.Chanderpaul
A.Flintoff
Z.Khan
S.Clark
D.Steyn
M.Muralidaran

Unlucky to miss out: M Clarke, A.Prince, AB.de Villiers, M.Youssef, I.Sharma, V.Sehwag and many more.

By the way, sorry for lack of Pakistani's, I had M.Yousseff in, but for team balance decided to put Flintoff in instead.

A lot of depth in the bowling there and their batting is very deep.

Your thoughts and who you would have in your World XI?

M.Hussey a bit stiff

Re: Your Test World XI?

Hussey's form has dipped slightly and for team balance I didn't have him in there. Whats your XI?

We Australians have got to remember there are other cricketers out there from other countries in great form.

Decent effort there. @|

Kallis should not be in the team. With the bowling of Flintoff, Khan, Clark, Steyn and Murali he is definitely surplus to requirements.

I'll post my team up when i've had a little longer to think about it.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Yeah I did mine on the spot Jolldo, so it was mainly people I had seen lately. De Viilliers has impressed me but I don't think his century will earn him a spot in the team.

Its good getting the WK out of the way in the top order re Sangakarra, who would you have replace Kallis? M.Yousef?

Re: Your Test World XI?

My best Test World XI

1.Graeme Smith(RSA)*Captain
2.Sachin Tendulkar(IND)
3.Kumar Sangakarra(SL)
4.Mohammed Yousuf(PAK)
5.Shivnarine Chanderpaul(WI)
6.Mike Hussey(AUS)
7.Chris Gayle(WI)
8.Stuart Clark(AUS)
9.Ishant Sharma(IND)
10.Dale Steyn(RSA)
11.Murali(SL)

Alot of depth in batting, with Chris Gayle coming at 7.Stuart Clark can also hold his own with the bat.
With the bowling, i think the best way to go with the bowling is with 4 top quality bowlers and then having part timers if needed.
I didn't choose a top quality bowling all rounder, because of the strength with the bowling attack but Chris Gayle,is devastating with the bat as we all have seen.

Thoughts?

Re: Your Test World XI?

Don't think Gayle should be in there as I dont rate him as much as some others as a test player.

Bring Gambhir or Katich in to open, take out Gayle. I would have it look like this.

Graeme Smith*
Guatam Gambhir/Simon Katich
Kumar Sangakarra+
Sachin Tendulkar
Mohammed Yousuf
Michael Hussey
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Stuart Clark
Ishant Sharma
Dale Steyn
Muttiah Muralidaran

Re: Your Test World XI?

After some further thinking, this is the conclusion I have come to.

Graeme Smith*
Guatam Gambhir/Simon Katich
Kumar Sangakarra+
Sachin Tendulkar
Mohammed Yousuf/Kevin Pieterson
Mike Hussey/Shivnarine Chanderpaul/AB De Villiers
Andrew Flintoff
Stuart Clark
Ishant Sharma
Dale Steyn
Muttiah Muralidaran

With Sangakarra being a top order bat it helps the balance a lot, affording you that extra specialist batsman. Sangakarra would make any team a lot more balanced.

I would take Shiv Chanderpaul.
Seeing that he has been the best bat in the last 2 years.
averaging over 100 both years.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Yeah same here, although De Villiers and Hussey wouldn't be bad replacements were he to get injured:p

Yep true...
but i reckon one bat that goes under the radar is Hashim Amla
Personally i'd take him over de villiers.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Yes Hashim is one of my favourite batsmen, very under the radar.

De Villiers is a better number 6 though, plain and simple, Id rather see Hasim up the order or not there at all.

Definitely in the top 10 bats in the world at the moment though.

Both very classy players.

If we were choosing a number 3 I would take Amla any day, and number 5 or 6 and that leans me towards De Villiers.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Hmmm, this is a toughy.....

Probably based on performances this year and that I have seen/heard about:

Graeme Smith*
Virender Sehwag
Kumar Sangakarra+
Sachin Tendulkar
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Michael Hussey
Andrew Flintoff
Mitchell Johnson
Ishant Sharma
Dale Steyn
Muttiah Muralidaran

I went with Sehwag over Gambhir because, as proved in the Chennai Test, a quick start puts the opposition on the back foot, bowlers under pressure, and it allows the middle order to take their time. On a difficult wicket, however, Gambhir would come in.
Mitchell Johnson helps with the pace and adds a different angle. Also his footmarks will help Murali as the match wears on.
I like Shiv and Huss at 5 and 6 respectivly because (heaven forbide) if a top order collapse would occur, who would be better than those 2 to rebuild the innings.
The major thing my team lacks is an outstanding fielder, which may be a problem, but that said, there aren't any fielders of Ganguly propertions, so I guess they could get away with it.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Great thinking there Jimmy I like the way you've gone about it.

I nearly put Sehwag in there, but Smith and Gambhir at their best may not be as aggressive, but when they are at their best they will more than make up for it.

Re: Your Test World XI?

Good thinking Jimmy.:D
Michael Hussey is a top fielder though.in the gully area
Mitch Johnson.has arguably the best arm in international cricket
and Graeme Smith.is a very handy slip fieldsman
but yes...
other than that..u r short of fielders.lmao.
top team though

Re: Your Test World XI?

Graeme Smith (Captain)- leading run-scorer of the year
Virender Sehwag- his ability to change a games.
Ricky Ponting- still class just having problems with his team
Kevin Pietersen- 1000 runs in the year
Sachin Tendulkar- After the chennai test how couldn't he be in the team
Shiv Chanderpaul - ICC player of the year
Kumar Sangakarra (Wicketkeeper)- Ahead of dhoni due to his batting.
Andrew Flintoff- Bowling with venom and batting is improving
Zaheer Khan- The most dangerous bowler in world cricket i believe.
Murali- Too good.
Ajantha Mendis -26 wickets in three Tests

Ino pace bowlers are a bit short but 2 pace men, 2 class spinnners, 1 class part timer(Sehwag) and then useful sachin
