Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Jewell's retirement is a sham and he will play in the first shield game.

Just a tactic to get an extra player contracted.

Ridiculous I might add.

You would think Graeme Rummans would be on a bit considering he came across from NSW.
Depends how you judge it. Don't know if he'd be on that much at St Kilda, but when you throw in the work he gets with Cricket Victoria working with the Academy, then maybe it's a possibility...

Don't know that he'll play the first game, but he'll definitely play some games throughout the year.

Really not that much different to Tasmania employing Bevan as an assistant coach, or South Australia doing the same with Matthew Elliott, so that they could get around the salary restrictions.

Interesting to see Michael Wallace from St Kilda withdraw his clearance. Has spent a lot of time in underage development programs, still playing 3rd XI at stages last year for the Saints.

Any takers on what team he'll start in?

Never heard of the kid, you would think St.Kilda told him he will play a higher grade making him withdrawl his clearance.

Just out of curiosity what would be the average salary for a pro player?

Also would this rain effect the start to the season? Been raining heavily for the past hour in Melbourne.

Word is that Northcote's big recruit may not even play. Any truth to this?
Pretty sure that this talk is incorrect, FTR.

I know he's over here. Or are you indicating that he's injured?

I've heard that Delmont for Richmond is out till Christmas, with a footy injury.

Thought that I'd post my selections for Round 01.

Prahran vs Footscray Edgewater
Frankston Peninsula vs Melbourne University
Northcote vs North Melbourne
St Kilda vs Richmond
Hawthorn Monash-University vs Geelong
Melbourne vs Carlton
Fitzroy Doncaster vs Camberwell Magpies
Dandenong vs Casey South Melbourne
Ringwood vs Essendon

Anyone else interested in posting their thoughts ?

I notice Melbourne Uni have picked up English county player Wayne White, who was previously over here with McKinnon. White has played a few seasons of First Class cricket and surely must rank as one of the bigger recruits for the year? Yet doesn't rate a mention on the Premier summary posted today. Was he a late signing?

Some excellent performances yesterday as the boys have to back up today for Round 2. And with the quick turnaround an opportunity for a couple of clubs to put a nice gap between themselves and the rest if they can record consecutive wins over the weekend.

Premier Cricket - Round 2 - Selections.
Footscray Edgewater (0-1) vs. Frankston Peninsula (1-0)
Melbourne University (0-1) vs. Northcote (1-0).
Richmond (0-1) vs. Prahran (1-0).
Geelong (1-0) vs. St Kilda (1-0).
Carlton (1-0) vs. Hawthorn Monash University (0-1).
Camberwell Magpies (1-0) vs. Melbourne (0-1).
Casey South Melbourne (0-1) vs. Fitzroy Doncaster (0-1).
Essendon (0-1) vs. Dandenong (1-0).
North Melbourne (0-1) vs. Ringwood (1-0).

Most clubs will be hoping that Hodge doesn't play too often now that he's retired from First Class cricket. Maybe he'll retire from Two Day cricket as well??

Really don't think Northcote will win the flag, a chance of finals, but they don't have the batting depth to support Theo against the quality line-ups.

The weather isn't looking too good for tomorrow, may not be a full day's cricket available so the right call at the coin toss could be very important.

Premier Cricket - Round 3 - 1-Day. Selctions highlighted

Northcote (2-0-0) vs Footscray Edgewater (1-0-1)
Melbourne University (0-0-2) vs North Melbourne (0-0-2)
Frankston Peninsula (1-0-1) vs Richmond (0-0-2)
Prahran (2-0-0) vs Geelong (2-0-0)
St Kilda (1-0-1) vs Carlton (2-0-0)
Hawthorn Monash University (0-0-2) vs Camberwell Magpies (1-0-1)
Melbourne (1-0-1) vs Casey South Melbourne (0-0-2)
Fitzroy Doncaster (1-0-1) vs Essendon (0-0-2)
Dandenong (2-0-0) vs Ringwood (2-0-0)

Good luck to all teams.
