Dvca - Money Shield - Season 2011/12

so,Heidelberg,Banyule and a few others will be joining the comp??

I see that they HDCA forum has been closed for reasons unbeknown. I hope that the people on that forum don't spill onto here to continue what ever conversations you had going on over there.( if that is your agenda ). We keep it civilised over this neck of the woods if you get my drift .

Yep. Things got a little bit interesting on the HDCA forum when they started blaming each other for the demise of the comp and a few threats were made. They don't need a forum now anyway! Seriously though, the NMCA/HDCA merger has now failed, can we expect a couple more applications before Monday's deadline?

Yep

I think with a few teams possibly coming in, we should look at 14 teams in each division. It can be done. A 13 round season, 7 two dayers and 6 one dayers. That would keep it at 20 playing days during the season. I would consider a final 6 too.

That doesnt seem overly fair. You wouldnt be pleased if you played the bottom 6 teams in one day games and didnt have a chance of an outright against some of them?

this is the fixture that existed in Money Shield two seasons ago. If memory serves me correct, most players hated it.this is why there was a rule change to 12 teams per grade.

Yeah, you're right. But there's no perfect fixture. Would rather play 6 one dayers than play Sundays. Just personal preference. I get the feeling we'll need to go to 3 divisions or have 14 teams if the rumours are true.

Surely if we get so many teams coming across, we would have to have 3 comps, and ALL new comers would have to start in the bottom grade and work their way up. It might also mean the bottom couple in each grade also drop a grade to even out the numbers. Other than that, I don't really see any fair ways of doing it (not that I am saying this is fair).

All I can say is good luck to Neal Bowden doing the fixtures next year. That job next year would be as enjoyable as being Josef Fritzel's daughter.

I'd prefer a fixture of all 2 day games, especially for sides 1st XIs...

it's been done. I remember about 9-10 years ago Barclay and Money Shields played 11 two day games with 2 games saturday-Sunday. Again players didn't like playing sat/sun games so it was changed back to all Saturday games.

What about - We get 2 more applicants, that are successful, making 28 Clubs.
We have 3 grades.
Top 2 grades are 8 sides each, play each other in 1 and 2 day game, (18 playing dates).
3rd grade is made up of 12 clubs, and they play each other once, 9 x 2 day games, 2 x 1 day game (20 playing dates).
Comp could then have a spare weekend for top grades to play make up games, (without having to play Sundays).
Top 2 in each grade go up, and bottom 2 in each grade go down.

First, if everybody in an 8-team grade plays everyone in a 2-dayer and a 1-dayer, doesn't that come to 21 playing dates?

Secondly, under this proposal, you would need to demote at least 12 existing clubs (4 from BS, and 8 from MS) and that's assuming the top 2 grades are all existing DVCA clubs; I would have thought this might make it a bit tricky to get the required two-thirds majority to admit the new clubs.

It would surely be easier and more realistically achievable to simply restructure MS into 2 divisions, with the promotion/relegation of 2 teams each season.

And, of course, it all depends upon which, if any, clubs apply by 30 April.

2 more definitely coming across. doubt any others will

Looks like Rosannas job has got even tougher with Heidelberg and banyule coming across. I've heard other money clubs have recruited well! It's no walk in the park now lizards.

You're right, it does work out to 21 playing days.

Doing that formula would also mean that a team that finished 5th in MS (just missing finals) would get relegated. Yes that would be Eltham this year, but thats not the point. You can't have a team that just missed finals get relegated. Thats ridiculous.

That would be very harsh.

I would still have 2 x 14 team divisions. 13 round season. 8 two dayers and 5 one dayers. 21 playing dates. Outrights aren't a huge issue for me. (Perhaps everyone gets at least 2 weaker teams in a 2 dayer?) Would also have a top 6 finals series played over 3 weekends like the subbies do. Just an opinion.

I would keep Lalor in Barclay and promote OPSF and LP to make 14 teams.

Money Shield would end up being MONTMORENCY, GREENSBOROUGH, HEIDELBERG, BANYULE, ROSANNA, ELTHAM, WHITTLSEA, SOUTH MORANG, PANTON HILL, BUNDOORA UTD, THOMASTOWN, MILL PARK, BUNDOORA 2'S, RIVERSIDE 2'S. (HURSTBRIDGE UNLUCKY)

That's of course assuming the rumors of Heidelberg and Banyule are true.
