Dvca - Money Shield - Season 2011/12

I would like to assume that Tongs is joking. If he actually holds a position of leadership at any DVCA club I seriously fear for that clubs future.

I am 100% serious. Why on earth would your club not want to have their two two grades in the top two divisions? Wouldn't you want to be playing the best of the best? Either they are flag hunting, or they are scared.

Opener is spot on, it would show sheer dominance of a club to be in MS and BS at the same time, and would make your club a very appealing prospect for any player changing clubs.

To all the new people on here welcome and as I'm sure most of you have already noticed Tongs is one of the biggest knobs on here.

How many times do clubs keep their same 11 players together in the lower grades?

I know tongs usually has a fair bit to say, and he doesn't mind a sledge.but Premiersagain he's said nothing wrong here and i hate to say it, but I agree with him on this occasion. It is weak of players or the club to not want to go up. It's like those players that most clubs have where they only want to player lower grades even though they are good enough to play higher. All so it's a bit easier. We should all aspire to play the highest we can, not shirk at a hard contest.

Did I hit a nerve there did I princess?

Take the Rosco factor out, if you refuse to go up (which should be a decision made by your B grade players, afterall, they are the ones that won the GF and deserve to go up), then they are nothing short of the soft c0cks. By you saying that you don't want to go up and get flogged says that you have no faith in anyone in your B grade. That they are all pea hearts that are not able to stand up against better sides.

So which is it? You don't rate any of them, or they are all soft?
You can call them what you like but the facts are that
B grade premiers getting less runs and wickets in Money then getting relegated means their opponents don't rate them. With the top HDCA sides playing them this season it's going to get even more depressing.

Is there anyone (of sane mind) who thinks a B grade premier would do well in Money Shield.

You need another hobby if it's come to this David.....

Surely one username is sufficient

You're completely off the mark. It's not about winning flags straight up. Try not to get relegated first year up, then get 3 or so wins the next year. Work your way up the ladder and maybe 3rd or 4th year push for finals.. It doesn't matter what grade you're talking about, no one will be world beaters first up. But back your ability and heart and improve each year.

No, and this has been proven. It is a lot harder for a 2nd XI to play against a 1st XI, as some players playing 2's are there for a reason, they are out of form or just not ready for the 1's.
Comp needs to make Hbridge go up, and maybe Mill Park, as mentioned earlier, a more severe punishment would be to start at a deducted points level, and fight to stay up, rather than play at a lower level and maybe compete for a flag.
But, if the exec will not make a stand on this situation, then the rules are ( however incorrect) that Bundoora must come up.

A bit like Eltham did this year, got relegated, did well to stay up, couldn't quite match it with the big boys, and now needs to rebuild yet again to see if they can maintain MS status.

If it's a 16 team comp we will be part of it, I have no issues with that. The comp has made it clear that Mill Park are in B grade so they would need to either keep Riverside or promote lower eltham, whom bundoora had two very close fought games with last season.

All I've said is we would prefer Hurstbridge take our place if it were to be a 14 team comp.

I would argue that it is less beneficial to have your 2's getting flogged week in week out in Money. You want players coming into the 1sts with runs/wickets undertheir belt, not coming off another drubbing. Particularly junior cricketers who benefit greatly from positive experiences.

Sounds like 90% of us think the same way, maybe just get Tongs on board, and we can all move on from this.

Hopefully we get a great season of cricket, the new sides enjoy their time, and 2 more sides come across in 13/14, make a 16 team MS, split into 2 groups and get it done.

Interesting, do you know of any other new clubs thinking of coming across next season?

Would think that the 2 clubs who had proposals almost ready to go this year, may go back to the drawing board and get a better one next season. And who knows, maybe even some other clubs that have gone to NMCA may not enjoy their time there and think about a move back.
Or if Hurstbridge and Mill Park sort themselves out, they could both come up and make the 16 1st XI sides for MS that would be ideal.

Wait and see, I suppose.
But either 14 or 2x8 are, of course, both interim solutions until we get back to the ideal 12.

Or maybe over the next few seasons we increase from 27 (current) teams to 32, split into 4 divisions of 8, each team plays each other twice over a 21 week season, and we call ourselves the NCL.......ohhh, did I mention the taboo topic.

It may be taboo, but some form of Super League is probably inevitable eventually.
Although it might be created by "salami slicing" ,ie "a series of many minor actions, that together result in a larger action that would be difficult to perform at once".

Tongs - we have never said we wont go up... Given the current changes to the MS comp, all we have said to the DVCA exec is that if you need us to stay out to help with the comp structure, then we are happy to do so.

As Bundoora said, if they go to a 16 team comp, rather than 14, then we will need to be part of it. if they stay at 14 and ask us to go up instead of HB, then again we will likely go up.
The DVCA I think really would want all clubs 1st XI playing in the MS shield comp. That would / should include HB & MP.

No disrespect to the guys playing in the 2's next year, but with the loss of a few seasoned heads, and the tougher fixture, I cannot see us winning too many... hopefully I am proven wrong.

We will just have to wait and see how the Exec structure the comp going forward.

Ex Pres - your thoughts on the punishment handed to Mill Park. Do you think that being demoted to B grade where they will be competitive and probably play finals is a fair penalty? Surely staying in Money Shield, maybe a financial sanction put on hold, placed over their head, and a points penalty, ensuring that they do not play finals for the next 2 seasons would be a better option. This would also leave them playing against other 1st XI's, and with Hurstbridge forced up, (a must) we would have the 16 teams needed to form the 2 groups and move forward.
