Subbies Thread

This is in sharp contrast to all the articles I've read about how PV are going to be attacking and how they've got guys pushing up from the 2s,I think you're being a bit naughty here, reverse psychology?
Be interesting to see when the sides are published unless you want to name names now?

Hewat Pearson Black all out

Game Set Match Williamstown

I think Willy would fancy their chances anyway but that would make the task a bit easier.
Being from the west I'm hoping for a Willy win, always an hospitable mob and a great place toplay on a warm day.

I agree with you on this.

Just seems strange that the curator would elect to do this knowing what the forecast was for Friday and Saturday. From memory, the forecast was for 5-15mm of rain for Friday and the 5-10mm for Saturday.

If he hand water's the deck on Wednesday morning, you would assume the pitch to dry out considerably with the weather reaching in the mid 30's on Wednesday and the same for Thursday with no need for covers to be placed until late Thursday night.

It's just unfortunate that Balwyn were not provided the same conditions that Box Hill were provided with the week before and when taking into account all of the facts, the same conditions from week one should have been provided.

It is quite interesting to see the social media noise surrounding this particular event and the fact they are saying it has happened before (Bayswater game last year)

I have been a voluntary curator for many years and, based on this experience, say a pitch to be used on a Tuesday in the middle of a 2 day weekend match should not be the same pitch as to be used for the second day of the weekend match. I hold this opinion for the following reasons. First, the curator cannot conduct the usual in-depth irrigation of the pitch on the Monday preceding the second day of the weekend match. That alone means the pitch on the second weekend is unlikely to provide equal playing conditions. Second, the curator will be aware by the time he can repair and re-consolidate the pitch for the following weekend (Wednesday) that heavy irrigation is out of the question. Given the last time the pitch was heavily irrigated was the Monday leading up to the first day's play of the weekend match, he is faced with the probability that if he does not at least hand-water the pitch on the Wednesday preceding the second day of the weekend match it will be altogether too dry by the weekend. I do not believe what actually happened in this instance should be permitted at such a senior level of cricket.

The trouble is too much cricket on decks that don't have the cooch grass cover, as in Ormond a few weeks ago after non stop Hatch games the curator had to water on the Friday and Ormond got caught out. He is a very good and experienced curator and was harshly treated by some at Ormond.

It pays to have a thick skin to be a cricket pitch curator. The ignorance of both players and administrators of cricket pitch preparation procedures is astounding and the VSDCA cannot point to having made any contribution whatsoever to improving the situation of which I am aware.

And on improving and helping struggling clubs.

I'll take the top 3 in SE. Not saying an upset isn't possible but it will take something special for any of the away teams to get up.

Malvern have some awesome momentum. Haven't lost since before Christmas. Luke Walker no doubt the most consistent bat in the League without a ton. Bowling unit is clicking. I'm picking an upset.

Caulfield and Bayswater the other winners.

Gives a Semi Final setup of:
Caulfield vs Oakleigh
Bayswater vs Malvern

Although the team which beat Malvern on that day was Oakleigh, and it was a thrashing.
