DVCA MONEY SHIELD 2021/22

Don’t know if it’s been touched on here but does anyone know what’s happening between OP’s and the school? Our 4ths played against them at Garvey oval and were told there was to be no consumption of grog onsite.
When questioned about it, an OP person said they haven’t been allowed inside the rooms for a month unless it’s committee members for meetings.
Is there some sort of friction going on?

From what I heard there was some words between function attendees and security one night. No idea if that's true or not, but whatever the case it seems like the school doesn't want them there and hasn't for some time. It's not surprising though, private religious schools have always been a pain to deal with, I don't think I've ever had a positive encounter with one, in a volunteer or professional setting.

Not sure what the options might be if they were not welcome, going back to Sycamore isn't an option as the pitch is gone now.

Two former NMCA clubs going for it in the granny. Backing Rosebanks experience
So that will leave only 4 original DVCA clubs in the top grade when 1 one of these clubs goes up. Epping & Rosebank/BP former NMCA and Rosanna, Macleod, Heidelberg and Banyule former HDCA. Great that these clubs jumped across and have made the comp much stronger.

It would have its pros and cons.
I feel punishing a team that finishes second last is too harsh. Only a couple of years ago Lalor Stars were second last and only an outright away from playing finals.
One thing I feel is inevitable is a restructuring of the competition. Is 10 sides in each grade viable going forward if we were to adopt a hybrid model of one day cricket and two day cricket?

I have heard from two sources that OPs cricket club have been told to find a new home. The College want them out and want them out now.

Well yeh that's a point, but I feel the situation the stars were in might not crop up all that often. Usually there are a couple of solid celler dwellers in the grades.

I don't know if 10 per grade is viable in the situation you mention, however does anyone realistically think that the current admin are going to adopt 1 day cricket into the top level fixtures if they don't have to? Last 2 seasons forced their hand, but I'm certain they will take things back to the old 2 day fixture as soon as possible. Even for the lower grades, that should frankly just stay 1 day games.

However could you imagine the screaming of sides copping a relegation that would go on if they took it down to 8 a division and made another shield?

Reckon all going well next year will be 9 x 2 day and 2 or 3 one day games. Ideally I think 8 team grades with 7 x 2 and 7 x 1 will be the long term plan but the key is to find 2 more clubs willing to join the competition.
Top 2 sides in each club aside, rest of the comp should exclusively be one day cricket IMO.

The problem with that is what is considered the top 2 sides? What happens if a club has Mash and E Grade as their 2's? Does that mean all grades down to F(or are F included in the 2 day games as well) play 2 dayers? Where do you cap it? Eventually you will also get a bunch of players who have no clue how to play a 2 dayer and get put up to a grade that supports them. I agree G grade should be 1 day only but anything else should still have some 2 day games in them.

Aligning all second grades relative to your first 11 shield teams would make that achievable.

Relegation/promotion was only introduced as some clubs were accused of stacking lower grades which made for many lopsided 2nd 11 matches, especially after Xmas. DVCA would be better equipped to identify if this was to happen in future

I think we had to go harder at the start of the innings. I mean easy to say when you're sitting there sinking cans, but I've always said that in one day matches wickets don't matter, you just have to keep scoring and especially at our ground, keep hitting boundaries.
If you have 8 wickets in hand at drinks setting a target in a one dayer you win 75% of the time so wickets play a pretty big part
