I agree that his form is a bit of a worry grapedo.. but players that have excellent records need some leeway.

Re: Are Hussey's best days behind him ?

well this is his first form slump, and hes up against the mighty South African bowling attack..

Re: Are Hussey's best days behind him ?

Absoluetly no way is he not going to perform anymore.

Its just one of those time when you lose your form it happens to every batter in the world.Plus I can recal at least 2 dodgy decisions recently.

Re: Are Hussey's best days behind him ?

He has had some shocking decisions this summer that doesn't give him much confidence. Was hitting them pretty nicely yesterday. I reckon drop him down to 5 and give Clarke the chance to bat at 4. Win - win situation for the Aussies I reckon.

Was always technically average or just above. We needed him due to players going too long for a decent succession............but he's not our future.

Re: Are Hussey's best days behind him ?

i would put him as australias next vice captain, although i would prefer him as captain to clarke, but hes too old for that. he had a very good start in international cricket, but we must look at his domestic record. he averages 54 in SS, which is pretty damn good, and most batsman tend to average about the same in international cricket. having an average of 54 at the end of his career would mean that he was a fine player for his country, i know its on 70 or 60 average like hes been getting, but like all players, unless they are directly related to bradman or warne, are going to have form slumps. this 'slump' that is happening now will put him down to a more normal, but still very successful position. hayden averaged 53 before his last 2 tours, and thats the average i want to remember him by. we all agree hayden was a fine player do we not? thats what i expect of hussey, that sort of average with that sort of consistency. i think he will prove a mentor for younger players, we cant fill the team up with young players all of the same age, that way when they go to retire the whole team will pretty much retire at the same time, and that obviously leads to trouble. the ages need to be staggered, and most importantly there has to be at least 2-3 experienced batsman and 2-3 experienced bowlers with 50 or more tests under their belt to provide stability to the team. hussey has had his initiation, now he, the selectors and the fans have to ride the rough seas through his bad times to get back to the hussey we know and love. we cant chuck our best and experienced players away as soon as the get bad. if he has a very poor ashes with pretty much no score above 15 then that is when i would look at dropping him back to domestic level so he can work on his game, every batsman need that to show them that they arent invincible, but i wouldnt go doing it till then. i predict a good T20 world cup and an even better ashes for him. i just hope huss thinks the same thing...

Re: Are Hussey's best days behind him ?

This is a slump in form after some awesome summers in both forms of the game.
He will work his way out of it for sure, however, not at the same extraordinary levels as when he started, could be due to the fact that teams as well have worked him out.
Too good a player though for this to continue and, even though he is about 34, should have 3 or so seasons of good-very good cricket left in him, in both forms of the game that is.
