The first test proved to be a lot better contest than what was anticipated with West Indies really taking it up to Australia for most of the game until a final day collapse saw them fall short by 95 runs, a margin which was bigger than what it should have been.

The first test saw the bowlers dominate with Stuart Clark, Brett Lee, Fidel Edwards, Daren Powell and Dwayne Bravo causing the batters all sorts of grief out in the middle. This ground, named the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, has never hosted a test although it did host a number of World Cup games last year so both teams go in unaware of what might happen during the course of this game.

West Indies will be boosted by their good performance and despite losing, they know that if they play well, they are capable of giving Australia a real challenge. West Indies' spinner, Amit Jaggernauth has been dropped which leaves Sulieman Benn as the only recognised spinner in the team. The Windies may even go into the second test without a spinner as Jerome Taylor looks to break back into the line-up and Chris Gayle's groin looks as if it will be okay to play. Xavier Marshall comes into the squad despite being in some very average form domestically, I'm not sure why he's been picked to play. If he and Gayle do play, Devon Smith may drop down the order which means either Darren Sammy or Runako Morton may miss out despite being two of the Windies best players in Kingston. Marshall's inclusion however remains a long-shot at best.

There's only once change for Australia, Michael Clarke comes in for Brad Hodge. Hodge again misses out despite playing reasonably well at number five. Simon Katich gets another crack at opening despite faling both times in the last test with the rest of the side taking their places as normal.

The first test at Kingston saw a real arm-wrestle for the ascendency before Australia prevailed on the last day of the test. This game too promises to be an engaging one after the West Indies took it up to Australia the first time around. Things are looking on the up for the Caribbean, can they go one better this time or will Australia prove to be too good once again?

Yes, it's been picked. Yeah, Hodge unlucky but there's not much he can do, just has to keep doing what he's doing.

Marshall playing? Surely the Windies have someone better than Marshall.

Anyway, Dwayne Bravo gets Phil Jaques LBW, Bravo swung the ball nto the left hander who was struck whilst trying to play the ball off his legs. Cricinfo reckons there may have been an inside edge.

That was about 20 mins ago however and now Ponting is in and looking okay at the moment. Australia are 1/53 with Katich on 19 and Ponting has almost caught him already, he's up to 16 already.

Ponting only needs 45 more runs to reach the 10,000 runs club, he'll be the first player to do in under 200 innings should he get there.

Australia 1/70 at lunch. A pretty good start from the Aussies bar Jaques' dismissal. Ponting has raced to 28 from 33 balls, overtaking Simon Katich in the process, "Kat" as he is known in Australia circles is 24 not out.

Doesn't look to be much in the pitch for the bowlers so we may see a reversal of game one where the bowlers had it over the batsmen.

West Indies only bowled 23 overs in the first session too, not a good good over rate to start, already seven overs behind.

Australia now 3/224. Ponting made 65 and Hussey only got 10. Currently Katich is on 102 not out and Clarke is on 15.

Australia are 5/349 now, Katich was out for 113, a great century and one that should see him keep his spot for a few more games. Ponting was out for 65 and Symonds earlier today for 18.

Michael Clarke is looking in some good touch, he's up to 80 not out and Brad Haddin is on 26 not out and showing some good support.

Jerome Taylor is the leading wicket getter with 2/63.

Some good stuff from the Aussies, asserting the ascendency early in the game.

Australia declared at 7/479, Clarke was out for 110 so Brett Lee and Mitch Johnson continued the run glut adding an undefeated 65 before Ricky Ponting closed the innings. Lee got another 50, reaching 63 not out while Johnson was not out on 29.

In reply, West Indies are 3/125. Xavier Marshall, who was plucked from Jamaica's second XI scored a fighting 53 before falling to an unlikely wicket-taker in Michael Clarke bowling his left-arm orthodox. Ramnaresh Sarwan is 32 not out at stumps on Day 2 of the second test. Clarke has 2/7 from seven overs, taking the additional wicket of Runako Morton for two. Devon Smith was the first wicket to fall, he made 16 before falling to Mitch Johnson.

Plenty of work to do for West Indies, they still trail by 354 runs. Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are at crease though and they'll need to score big to reduce this big deficit they have. Australia on the other hand will be looking for quick wickets.

Raining at North Sound, West Indies are still 3/125, no play yet on day three so far. Lunch has been taken at the normal time although the weather is fining up so we should see some play pretty soon.

The wet outfield is stopping us now, still no change to the score as yet.

Stuart MacGill has announced his retirement from international cricket, a decision which will take effect after the current test.

West Indies are 4/302 early on Day 4. Stuart MacGill got the only wicket of a rain reduced day three, he picked up Ramnaresh Sarwan for 65.

Chanderpaul is 86 not out and Dwayne Bravo is 43 not out at the moment.

Just read the cricinfo commentary. Sounds like they were terrible, suprised cricinfo hasn't bagged him more for it.

Pretty disappointing capitulation by West Indies though, they've lost their last five wickets for just 27 runs after being in a very good position earlier today. Bravo was out to Lee for 45, Ramdin then next ball and Sammy was out in the next Lee over also for a duck. All three decisions were pretty suspect.

Jerome Taylor hung around for 20 and Daren Powell only stuck around for two balls as Lee did more damage. He has 5/55 now and has the last five wickets.

West Indies up to 9/352, Chanderpaul has his hundred and is 107 not out currently. With only Edwards for comany, he'll need to take as much of the strike as he can. Edwards averages 4.35 in test match cricket with the bat.

Spoke too soon. Edweards out for a duck, Fidel give Brad Haddin a simple catch off the bowling of Mitch Johnson.

All out for 352, Chanderpaul remains 107 not out. Edwards' average drops to 4.25. :D

His fiery spell of 4 or 5 overs that I watched yielded 3 wickets. Just brilliant

Katich was missing from the top of the order and is yet to bat, anyone know why?

Jaques made 76, Hussey opening hit 40 and Symonds is 46 not out

Katich copped a bad hit in his first innings and he was off having scans last night, didn't field all day, obviously the Aussies thought we wouldn't get down to Mitch by the end of the day. Katich will be back for tomorrow, and probably will bat considering we didn't have to nominate who will go in, cause the wicket was on the last ball.
