Australian domestic movements

Along with Chris Rogers move to Victoria, South Australian bowler, Ryan Harris has signed a three year deal with Queensland. Harris took 37 wickets in the Pura Cup last season at an average of under 30 and also scored 363 runs at 24.20.

Harris to Queensland

It's another massive blow for South Australia, who have already taken quite a few hits during the actual playing season. Darren Lehmann, Jason Gillespie and Matthew Elliott retired, Mark Cosgrove was dropped due to weight issues and their two promising spinners, Dan Cullen and Cullen Bailey both lost their Cricket Australia contracts due to poor showings throught the summer.

Harris' loss will be huge with their bowling stocks already depleted through the retirement of Gillespie. In fact, South Australia in general look pretty bad, retirements have really hurt them and this really caps off another poor summer for them. They will be heavily relying on Tait for next season and they will be hoping he doesn't play too many games for Australia otherwise they will be struggling for bowlers.

Anyway, two movements so far, Rogers to Victoria and Harris to Queensland. There's also a rumour that Zimbabwe international, Tatenda Taibu will be joining Victoria, now that would be interesting.

Any other interesting movements that we haven't heard about? What about thoughts on Harris' departure?

First things 1st, what in the hell is going on over in SA? If I'm not mistaken they have not won anything now for 12 years and don't look even close to winning anything. Having lost Gillespie, Lehmann, Elliott and having Bailey and Cullen battling for form, they've lost one of their best players in Ryan Harris. Fair dink, this really does look like a devastating blow to them. You could have imagined one of the very few lights at the end of the tunnel for next year would have been Tait and R.Harris opening the bowling for the Redbacks, but not to be. However, SA cricket has not made great strides forward for a long time now, it looks like they are going to be a rubble next year but the only way now for them appears up, start from scratch and try and get the Redbacks back to the top. You would imagine it would take a while, but you'd think that next season some promising youngsters who strangely have been held back like Delmont, Christian, Ferguson and co will be given every opportunity to make a name for themselves for SA cricket. For their sake, they need to push on from here on in.

Where to now for Mark Cosgrove? He's obviously got what it takes to succeed, but he needs to get himself into shape and grow up and start behaving himself off the field.

Tatenda Taibu joining Australian first-class cricket? This guy is one of the very few genuinely talented Zimbabwean cricketers, I hope he gets back onto the international stage sometime in the future, he's still only young, even though he's seemingly been around forever. But to the Vics? Where would he be in the pecking order for the keeper's spot?

SA have been struggling for a while now and these departures won't help. Harris going to Queensland will see them become heavily reliant on Tait and Paul Rofe as the quick bowlers and either Mark Cleary or Gary Putland as the third quick.

You're right though, they need to start playing the youngsters and developing some of their home grown talent. Too often, their younger players are given one or two games to prove themselves but are dropped after failing to perform. It's going to take a lot longer than a few games to settle into the side. Marvan Attapttu's first five innings for the Sri Lanka were ducks and he finished as one of Sri Lanka's best players so the development provess will take time.

He's has to get into shape, simple as that. He won't play for Australia until his conditioning is at an acceptable standard.

Just a rumour at this time. He is back playing for Zimbabwe but they are still banned from playing tests and few countries want to play them in ODI's due to their political problems.

If he joined the Bushrangers he would be their first choice keeper without question. A gun player and one of Zimbabwe's few shining lights over the past few years. He would walk straight into the Victorian first XI.

Big loss for Tassie although Wright didn't play a game with them last season due to injury so the loss is significantly reduced. It appears that the Tigers will get Gerard Denton back in return. The move is essentially a straight swap.

Denton left Tasmania a few years ago to play with Victoria but it appears that he will now head back home.

Good pick-up for the Tigers but that means one of their current quicks will now miss out as Denton will be a certain starter. Brendan Drew might be the unlucky player to lose his place.

Tim MacDonald the former Claremont Nedlands seamer left for Tasmania didn't he ? He took a bunch of wickets in the first grade over here in the WACA competition. Any news on him ? Thought he would definitely play some games for Tasmania, but nothing yet ?

Yeah, Timmy left WA for Tassie. Most of last season he was injured with a hand complaint but I think he played a first class game towards the end of the season, I think it was against WA.

He left the Warriors because he was lacking opportunity. Ironically he would have played a few games for us as a lot of our fast bowling stocks were injured for a while there. Still a fair way down the pecking order for Tasmania though.

Taibu would have to be the Vics No.1 keeper.....and he couldn't be a worse bloke than Wade!

Interesting swap, both injury plagued bowlers who when fit can be very damaging, happy to gain Wright following the loss of Denton, would have been handy to have both though

I've met Taibu before and he is a top bloke. If he is at the Vics I cannot wait to see him. He's a gun player, and a champ person too.

Taibu would be a great accusation for Victoria but might mean our Twenty20 specialist (Crosthwaite) would loose his contract.

But i'd rather win a Pura Cup than a Twenty20 comp so lets sign him up.

LOL, So I assume you've met Matthew Wade then? I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head there. Taibu to Victoria, oy! oy! oy!
