DVCA Barclay Shield 2010/11

What did everyone think of the first round?

Some interesting results.

Plenty won without their 2 best players. Camrea surprised some (not me I tipped them). They are a genuine finals threat Lower Eltham will be disappointed with their first up loss. Creek beat Bundoora at Yulong in what is a great win for them but a bad loss for the Bulls. The newly formed Research destroyed Mernda who still has clouds over it's batting. Stars got a good win first up against Epping and Riverside look like this may be their year after beating Eltham in a high scoring affair.

Thoughts?

Rossy & Lovey are their two best players.

Just thought I would mention a story I heard from the Riverside vs Eltham game this week. Apparently an Eltham player made a fairly personal and ordinary comment to a senior Riverside player. Didn’t even hang around to apologize and have a beer after the game either. A very disappointing display from all reports.

Don't tell me he called Trent a "Ranga":D

It was one of the worst displays of sportsmanship I have ever seen on a cricket field. He should have gone in the umpires book it was an absolute disgrace.

It was only a matter of time….

Through out the whole of the riverside innings, not once did an Eltham player sledge or make any comments directed at a Riverside batsman. When Eltham batted almost everyone batsman was sledged and was told how they didn’t belong in A Grade, their ability wasn’t up to scratch etc. I am the first person to say that I love a bit of sledging, but in all fairness, if one side does not sledge at all I think its shit when the other team drills each batsman. But I’ll cop it. You can’t really sledge when Gibbsy and Smale put on a partnership like that (One of the best I have seen in the DVCA).

When I walked out to bat I copped a barrage from close to 8-9 players and that continued every single ball, whilst I was expecting and looking forward to comments from the strangler and bubblewrap (you ************** ;-) ). There was one comment that was whispered to me at the end of an over (something about me looking at kiddie porn on the computer) I thought enough is enough and I am going to give it back.

Was my comment to Gibbsy acceptable? No, do I regret it yes. But for the love of god, 3 players approached the umpires and wanted me reported for calling you guys a pack of (Rhymes with “Punts”), Seriously boys if you are going to get upset by that, then you need to man up and grow some balls. If you can’t handle someone using the C Bomb, then you shouldn’t play sport!

As for not hanging around, those that know me on here know that I play hard and give and cop it. Live by the sword die by the sword (Well bowled Doyle), but I have ALWAYS hung around for a beer, no matter what happens. But unfortunately on Saturday night, ECC had a function in which I was organising and people were going to meet me at the club at 6:30 to help set things up, and the game didn’t finish till 6:45. So I had to run straight away. I did ask an Eltham player to buy Gibbsy a beer for me, apologise and explain as to why I had to go.

I am more than happy to come have a beer with you boys on Thursday night!

I didn't give u anything, but you already know this. I personally didn't think it was worth me saying anything to u, I just wanted to get u out without saying a thing. Unfortunately u didn't get any strike from the end I was bowling from and I didn't get to bowl a ball at you which I am sure you would have been looking forward to as well.
I know u had a function, so did we. thought u would have snuck a quick one in given the circumstances.
The fact that u regret it is a good thing. The language whilst ordinary particularly to a player far superior to both you and me it was what unfolded as we walked to the drinks break that I didn't like.

Guys lets not do this on here.....what happens on the field should stay on the field. From all accounts "Tongs" regrets what he said to Gibbo and so he should(Perhaps a personal apology could be in order). But Lets not all get to carried away here....
The umpires did a fair job at settling things down at the time.
Lets focus on Rnd 2 and look forward and not backward.

I knew you were keeping quiet on purpose. Smart move. I was actually really looking forward to facing you too, as you can tell you're either going to get me out, or go for a lot. A risk worth taking.

With the function, as I said, there were people meeting me to set up at 630, and obviously had to shower etc. Shit timing, but couldn't be helped.

I regret one comment to Gibbsy, but I don't regret the swearing. Thats how i speak, like it or not, i don't care. Anyone that takes offence to swearing on a sporting field should get off and take up knitting. I don't care who it is, if you are on the same ground as the other 22 blokes, you are fair game. Name or no name as I was so politely told. How did you feel about a certain person from Riverside walking up to me and getting in my face at the break? Noticed how you didn't like what i did, but made no comment about what he did? I walked no where near him, and he approached me???? You don’t see me getting on here tearing up!

Yeah I know u were looking forward to facing me I was trying to give your partner a single to get u on strike, unfortunately it was dispatched for 4 :( we will have to wait till next time. Don't really say a lot to the opposition when I bowl or bat. Rather concentrate on what I'm doing (that's where u stuffed up on the weekend). Fair enough about the function. He came up to u yes but it was the chesting I didn't like. Which I believe was your doing (2 sides to every story here but that's the way I saw it)

you would have thought that the matter would have died off, but the president of your club, who should be a leader came up into my face. Don't regret what I did there, I'd do it again. I'm not going to back down to him or anyone. If that means chesting him to get him to get out of the way, so be it. Simply wouldn't have happened if he didn't come up in my face.

Moving on, it's a shame you sider boys would rather get on to have a crack at me rather than talk about 3 great innings. Gibbs: ton, Smale: ton not out, and little Nathan chrimes. 35no on debut for a 16yo was a brilliant knock! Massive future for him!

That was great knock by the young fella. Agree with the future being bright for him.
As for gibbo and elliot, They were both fantastic innings and a pleasure to watch, I have congratulated them numerous times and told them how fantastic their knocks were.

Whilst I come from the old days as well, where 'on the field stays on the field' was the way. I suggest you read the following:

http://www.cricketvictoria.com.au/page/member_protection_by_law.html

I did not write this, but I was involved in a tribunal hearing against these laws and can tell you ANYTHING you say will now impose a ban, trust me. There will be no forgiving you due to you believing what you said was not harmful.

The fact that the DVCA umpires are STILL not reporting people against this by-law will come back and bite them in the arse very very soon. I can tell you that I have heard there is also legal action against players, clubs and associations (not DVCA) due to them not protecting players in accordance with this law.

I suggest that you review what you say on the field to opposition players. You may not mean it and believe its a way to get on top but its not the way you can play now.

As for people chesting others on the field, you may want to speak to you local policeman and find out the definition of assault, because you just committed it, and, if referred, would be charged. That sort of crap is not welcome on a cricket field.

Cheers

CC can you do me a favour? Get down off that high horse, you will break its back!

As Strangler said before, two sides to a story. I said something i shouldn't have, as did a Riverside player to me. As for this "chesting" incident, I think this has been blown out of proportion. We went face to face as walking off the ground he stood in my way and told me what he thought of me, i kept walking whilst telling him what i thought of him. It wasn't the normal chesting that you all think. If it was really that bad, the umpires would have reported players. The whole incident lasted 2 minutes and people getting on here have completely blown it up.

Assault you reckon CC? Interesting to note that there were at least 3 coppers down there. Nothing said?

Tongs, you really need to learn to read. At no stage did I judge or comment on your game, I was not there and I am not suggesting you were in the wrong for anything, how about you get off the defence. I passed on information. Thats it.

Don't ever ask a favour from me mate 'cos it ain't happening, how about asking Wally.:D

Cheers

You're exact words were "find out the definition of assault, because you just committed it,"

Oh Wally! I went looking to ask a favour off him, couldn't find him! There is more to come on Wally. Stay tuned!

Guys I'd rather people didn't name posters on here even if a few people know each other and all.

Keep the proper names out of it. If you have to name someone then use their username otherwise don't use names at all.

I only said that as you mentioned someone chested another. Mate despite what you think, that can actually be deemed assault.

And also remember, its not just a possibility of criminal convictions there is the fact that people have been sued in a civil court, just for the exact example you have given.

Mate I am not judging, I was not there, just providing friendly advise.
