Dvca - How Do We Make It Better?

Or keep the Tuesday night regional T20 comp and if there’s enough demand have a seperate DVCA mid-week T20 comp

Yep, exactly right. Have a T20 comp that runs the full length of the season, but is played every second Tuesday, allowing players to still train the other Tuesday.
You could have two divisions within the DVCA (North & South etc) and then at the end of the season, play two finals back to back on the same day on a Sunday or something like that to draw a crowd.

Keep it within the region but. Aside from Rivergum and Rosebank, the rest of the clubs out of Jika are wasting their time. Happy to lose the 20/20 affiliation with the neighbours until they can sort their shit out. That comp is poo

Yeah, I was referring to make it a competition just within the DVCA.

Not a bad idea. Training is pretty much bloody useless anyway, might as well play T20's on the Tuesday night, at least it would be more fun.

Lower grades - all 3rd XI teams down, should play 70 over one day games - start at 12.30pm, finish at 5, get back to the 1's or 2's and the young kids can see them in action.
Gives a chance for at least 6 bowlers per game (max 6 per bowler), and allow for batsmen to have (potentially) 20 hits.

All 1's and 2's in 6 grades
Barclay down to an 8 team comp - everyone plays everyone home and away. Can't understand how the premier grade plays to a compromised draw.
Then go 10 in Money and 10 in Mash.
Same for all 28 2's teams - 3 grades, best 8 play in the top grade (B), then 10 (C) and 10 (D). Then E and below are 8 team comps playing 1 day cricket in a relegation and promotion free for all.

No, just no. Not even anyone in our 3's thinks this is a good idea.

Why one day cricket?

What’s your motivation?

Lower grades are currently playing half one day half two day cricket now..

We had a odc which was scrapped this season because of lack of interest...

Between rock walls, gravel, carparks, cyclone wire fences, creeks and concrete pitches, there's no need for any of us to carry sandpaper to screw up the ball. Just bowl a couple of short ones that smash into the fence.

Probably true, Serge..but my club came from there along with some others prospering in the DVCA, yours also is not a traditional DVCA club, maybe its best we look to help out these POO comps where possible or the DVCA might not be as strong as you perceive it to be.

The reason why the hdca clubs have been successful in their transition to the dvca in recent times is the clubs are positioned well within their local community. As well as numourus sides in both the junior and senior club.

Majority of the Nmca clubs are just made up clubs, play at a local grounds who have no community involvement and no junior programs.

If we are to look at any new clubs we would surely need to have a list of prerequisites before we would even consider them.

- at least 4 senior sides
- at least 6 junior sides
- in2cricket program
- at least 50k in operating account

As well as an affiliation with relevant community partners. Schools, other sports clubs or charity partners

So you want them to be amoung the elite clubs of the DVCA straight away? Thats a big ask.
And what current DVCA have 50k in their operating account?

Back on how to make the comp better.
I know I have commented on the website here before but apart from it having a new look seems nothing else has changed.
As had a look today, no 2nd day scores of the main Shield G/Finals.
No team of the year or mention of who won the various medals in the Shield grades.
And Spirit of Cricket, or doesnt that exist anymore?

Seriously DVCA, get your act together as you do next to nothing to promote the game.

Probably not keen on a announcing team of the year and shield medals prior to presentation night tonight.

harsh comments here, ever been oustide the DVCA mate? half the DVCA is made up of clubs with different origins.
50k operating account!! are we handing out bookmakers licences too

In regards to fixture, season just gone BS-E Grade returned on the 6th of January.

This upcoming season that Saturday falls on the 5th. If you play on this day most clubs will train on the Thursday the 3rd (doubt they will be training on Tuesday the 1st).On average we'll say most people have a couple of weeks off over the break, most people will be returning to work on the 7th or 14th, which means if you are away down the beach or anywhere you'll be potentially cutting short your holidays by a few days to train and then play.

Returning on the 5th is far too close for mine.

Make up the day with a Saturday/Sunday fixture or x 2 Saturday/Sunday OD games.

I respect the argument that "you sign up to play you are committed to the cause etc. etc" but there has to be some common sense brought to the table here. Availability is tough in early Jan, and you probably wouldn't expect there to be issues availability (esp if you are a paid player) playing in the Shield grades but it's such a stretch on the clubs to expect players to front up on the 5th of Jan to play 2nds cricket.

Not even going to mention the disaster that was the last seasons round, heated off.

What are peoples thoughts?

If cricket is played up until Dec 22 ( it should be IMO, we finished up on 16th last year from memory ) then no grade should return earlier than January 12. Doing this still gives us 20 playing days ( BS 9x 2 day and 2 x 1 day )
