Re: Fast bowling fitness
Weight lifting and falling into bad habits? Nothing like having a good coach but that does not necessarily stop you from learning . Bulk up with free weights? The objective is functional strength for sport, not bulking up. A 13 year old cannot bulk up much anyway. You are assuming that I am asking kids to lift weights to the exclusion of conditioning work. Maybe you should refer to the work Derek Hansen and Kelly Baggett on this subject. Obviously you do not have the experience and I can understand you feel this way because of the lack of experience. But let it not be a case of not wanting to learn as this is not nuclear science. So what you are saying is that strength coaches are getting sued for advice they give on the internet? This is highly improbable. If the kid gets injured doing some of the things you advice other than weights then thats okay I guess? Look, there are many roads to 'Rome', but as coaches, we need to find the most efficient way to get there. And Rippetoe is one of the best coaches to teach the correct technique big lifts to novices. That is why I mentioned his books.

It may be all great and good advising a 13 year old to go and bulk up with free weights but unless they are supervised by someone who knows what they are doing, it's very easy for damage to be done.
As posted above the key is a good coach but how many are there around that can be trusted? Personally, I don't want to be sued in 2/5/10 years time or whatever because some kid is injured and is blaming advice found on this site. Hence we err on the side of caution.
If someone is determined to do weights then we'll see what we can do to point them in the right direction and with a knowledgeable coach, face to face, which in my opinion is the best way when it comes to learning weight techniques.
