Game 1 - Western Australia vs Queensland

Queensland 9/161 (50 overs)

Lee Carseldine 54 (81)
Chris Hartley 36 (83)

Brett Dorey 3/29 (10)
Brad Knowles 3/53 (10)

Western Australia 8/162 (49.3 overs)

Ashley Noffke 43 (74)
Wes Robinson 24 (63)

Ben Laughlin 3/33 (10)
Alister McDermott 2/21 (10)
Ben Cutting 2/26 (10)

Result: Western Australia won by 2 wickets (with 3 balls remaining)
Points: WA 4, Qld 0
Man of the Match: Ashley Noffke

Good first up win by WA despite the poor batting in the chase. Noffke was superb with the ball as was Brett Dorey with Brad Knowles picking up three wickets in his first List A game. Carseldine and Hartley did well with the bat in what looks to be a rebuilding year for Queensland with so many retirements over the off-season.

Ironically, it was ex-Queenslander Noffke who steadied WA to get them home and took the Man of the Match award as well for his all-round efforts. The rest of the WA batsman struggled on the seam-friendly wicket while the trio of McDermott, Cutting and Laughlin prospered with the ball.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Lucky escape for us on Sunday, Noffke looks like he will be a very handy pick up though. Hopefully we can get better and have good decent season.

Damn stealers! Nofke is ours! :p

Although it was QLDs fault that we lost him in the first place.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Geez the redbacks are a strange mob, with Ferguson out for the year they then also drop Klinger and are struggling at 4/99

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

They showed a clip of Klinger cracking the shits when he Sorell told him he wasn't playing, I was exactly as angry as he was.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

With QLD heading for a very comfortable bonus point win against the redbacks it looks like the team who finished 3rd last year could finish last, although should get tough competition from the Blues :D

But I look at this QLD team and cant see anyone whatsoever who will feature in Australian selection discussions this summer, maybe Hartley at a stretch if there are some more injuries but really when injuries strike that badly all keepers are in the frame with only 6 around but none of their batsmen or bowlers will likely be anywhere near the Aussie team, pretty bad loss by South Australia

Queensland will win easily. :p

In fact I'm not even joking!

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

0-2 for the Redbacks already. Making the final is already looking difficult for them and we haven't even started November yet.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Hopefully they are jet lagged and in an emotional wreck after their pummeling :p

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Or hopefully so determined to bounce back and with Holland not there, will smash SA into submission on a nice, fast, flat pitch like we are used to

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Don't sound positive and optimistic... it's bad news for us Queenslanders.

Ladder after Game Three

Code:
Pos Teams M W L T N/R Pts NetRR

1 Queensland 2 1 1 0 0 5 +0.523
2 Tasmania 1 1 0 0 0 4 +0.949
----------------------------------------------------
3 Western Australia 1 1 0 0 0 4 +0.053
4 South Australia 2 0 2 0 0 0 -1.190
5 New South Wales 0 0 0 0 0 0 0.000
6 Victoria 0 0 0 0 0 0 0.000

Doherty off to a great start, three wickets in Tassie's first game. Hopefully this will be his break-out year although he looks to have fallen behind Jon Holland in the one-day spinning order. Scott Walter impressed on debut with Ben Cutting continuing to take wickets.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Just curious about the fixture, I know the Vics and NSW are away, but every year QLD for some reason play most of the early season games, this year their season will be half over before the Vics and Blues have barely begun

I'm guessing they do this because of Brisbane's weather. January and February sees Brisbane get a lot of rain which renders most of the games washed out. So the Bulls play a lot of home games in October to December to combat this.
