Re: Schoolyard team selection- ALL TIME!!

Ljp86 also has Glenn McGrath, but aside from that it looks fine.

Looks like most people have some catch-up picks.

Re: Schoolyard team selection- ALL TIME!!

Are we allowed to use catch-up picks to bring us up to 9?

If so, I pick Keith Miller and Sanath Jayasuriya

Re: Schoolyard team selection- ALL TIME!!

My bad- I'll go Curtly Ambrose instead

Whoops, I missed it on the first list as well - my first pick was Sobers. Sorry about that.

If you can't edit your post, shoot me a PM and I'll update it for you.

Done! It was confusing me as to why you had one less player than me!

Re: Schoolyard team selection- ALL TIME!!

Final Team:

Victor Trumper (c)
Gordon Greenidge
Wally Hammond
Everton Weekes
Javed Miandad
Garfield Sobers
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Richard Hadlee
Bill O'Reilly
Waqar Younis
Sydney Barnes

My overriding goal with this team was balance. My opening partnership matches the strokeplay of Trumper with the ultimate hard-hitting, bullyboy opener in Greenidge. The versatile and powerful Hammond coming in at 3 would be equally at home with either of them as he came to the crease. The versatility of Weekes comes next - with his ability to play strokes all over the ground, he is perfect to steady the ship in the unlikely event that those above him fall quickly. Conversely, if a good start has been had then one of the hardest hitters in the game is there to take advantage. Javed Miandad - one of the most reliable batsmen ever to play the game - comes in at 5 and provides a solild stability for the middle and lower order to build their innings around. Sobers and Gilchrist are next, to take advantage of the second new ball if need be, or to finish up the innings. If one of them is to fall, Hadlee provides solidity to allow them to continue to score, meaning that by the time the opponents have reached my tail it has been hard fought.

Bowling, there runs the full gamut. Hadlee and Barnes are my new-ball partners - two of the greatest opening bowlers ever to play the game. Waqar may sometimes take the first or second over, but his speciality is to serve as my key strike weapon when the conditions are suitable to his lethal reverse swing. O'Reilly takes the ball when it starts to get old and offer my pacemen less - Sobers partnering him at the other end, strangling the strike with his spin and medium pacers, will give Tiger plenty of pressure to take wickets with.

Re: Schoolyard team selection- ALL TIME!!

My team:

Barry Richards Av:72.57
Len Hutton Av:56.67
George Headley Av:60.83
Clive Lloyd (C.) Av:46.67
Steve Waugh Av: 51.06
Kumar Sangakkara (wk) Av:55.36
Ian Botham Bat Av:33.54 Bowling Av:28.40
Andrew Flintoff Bat Av:31.77 Bowling Av:32.78
Shane Warne Av:25.41
Malcolm Marshall Av:20.94
Curtley Ambrose Av:20.99

Starting with my bowling attack, you have two of the most feared West Indian quicks to have ever played the game, mixing Marshall's speed and swing with Ambrose's bounce. They are backed up with Bothams swing, and Flintoff's reverse swing and bounce, and then I've still got Shane Warne to come into play- the greatest leg-spinner in the history of the game, if there's nothing for the 4 prong pace attack.

We've also got Waugh & Lloyd's medium pacers to chip in when required.

Battingwise, my openers were a mix of Hutton's patience and Richard's power, followed by the man known as the "black Bradman", which I love the West Indian's response as saying Bradman was the "white Headley" :D

Then we've got the strength of Lloyd, followed by the determination of Waugh at 5, the silky Sangakkara at 6, and then if the bowling side had managed to keep the damage limited so far, I've got Botham & Flintoff to put further misery on them. Warne was no mug with the bat, and neither was Marshall, so there would be plenty of runs in this side in all conditions. ;)
