Sharma time wasting?

Sharma time wasting?

I always though batsman sit for a fair while with their gloves on their lap ready to bat? Surely you would notice that you have 2 right hand gloves? Still, even when he was on his way out to bat Lawry said "Gee, he's taking his time".

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was just nervous. Thoughts?

Re: Sharma time wasting?

it was a tactic.

but we can't be sure - so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

just another tactic used in the match - there was plenty of them

lucky not to get timed out, how much would the Indians love punter if he appealed for that

Yes, the rarely heard of timed out rule. Does anyone know how many people have been given out timed out (batsman is automatically given out if they haven't arrived to the crease 4 minutes after a dismissal of another batsman) in test matches, or even 1st class games? Now with all the talk of Australia not playing in the spirit of the game, if Ponting was to appeal for Sharma to be given out, that would definitely be outside the spirit of the game and be up there with the bodyline series, 1st mankad runout, Andrew Hilditch been given out handled ball when picking it up to give it back to the bowler (Safraz Nawaz wasn't it?) and the underarm. Was Sharma doing it on purpose? Perhaps. But we can't be certain, plus India have made a deal of Australia's play in this test, so it could have been a tit-for-tat tactic. So we should probably give Sharma the benefit of the doubt. This is 1 of many things to talk about. What do you reckon of some other issues, like Australia's attitude and the Harbhajan-Symonds race row?

Re: Sharma time wasting?

The batsman must be in position to take guard or for his partner to receive the next ball within 3 minutes of the fall of the previous wicket and on appeal. I think Sharma probably was just ready inside 3 minutes.

as for it being applied in cricket matches. i'm looking around, if i find anything, i'll let you know

I think it was a tactic to time waste.
He was the only batsmen padded up at the time because all the others were out so therefore how could he have a left handed glove in his bag?
But you never know what went on behind the scenes.

He was clearly time wasting thats what they do an they have done it for the past 30 years.. they think they run the cricket world and the ICC should stand up to them and not let them pressure them into things... we will win the series 4-0 they are no good... if it was a draw none of this would of happened, but they lost an are sore losers...get on with the cricket india and stop sulking we dont do it hear you might do it back home but not hear... and I hate when people either write in the paper send an email to 9 an say how we are a disgrace for how we played and that symonds should of walked, these people have never played cricket or even watched it they just see the papers an put there 2bobs worth in and its crap! us crickets no if you hit it to first slip your out, you hit it to the keeper and the umpire doesnt give you out yah dont walk you havent been given out yah never walk! so people with no clue on cricket just dont talk about because yous have got no idea! @|

Well said.

Re: Sharma time wasting?

Thinking about it, if he was concentrating on the task of actually batting out the game instead of weakly trying to milk a few extra seconds off the clock he may have went a bit better?

Re: Sharma time wasting?

I reckon that the whole team has been time wasting. The problem with that is they guys will even hold up the aussies right at the last minute which is stupid. Some of them have gone out with old bats knowing that they will break, or some other thing like wearing an old thigh guard that has snapped, then they waste time bringing things out.
They have been slow in bringing the things out.
