Should you stay or should you go!

i'm sure its probably been mentioned on here before or talked about. But it cropped up again in our club last night at nets.

we were talking about bad descicions at league cricket level.

you know did you hit it or nick it and not walk! were you out but refused to move!

i'm off the opinion that if i nicked it i will walk, however on all LBW decisions i will stand untill given out!

but some clubs and players know damn well they were out and usually get eh luck of the draw!

any opnions?

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I never walk, as a bowler I get some pretty bad decisions against me, so I'll take the good with the bad, but I'll complain for the whole match if I get a bad one :p

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

i guess it depends.

for example if i play a 2nds game, they are not specified to have panel umpires just who ever is not batting type of thing where as in teh 1st Xi they have panel umpires which makes it a bit fairer?

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

We had a payed umpire umpire our grand final and he was really bad, I think the coach of the other team would of been better, so yeh whoever is umpiring I never walk :p

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

Generally I'll let the umpire decide if I'm out or not, after it, that is their job.

It can be difficult when you have a member of your own side umpiring etc but if it's blatant then I'll walk but probably 75% of the time I'm not sure myself so wait for the finger to go up or stay down.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

well i'm still in two minds! as a keeper i know when people have nicked it! and you can tell by my instant reaction!

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I want to stay out there as long as possible so I would never walk back to the pavilion unless the umpire raises his finger. You might feel its against the spirit of the game but you are going to get some bad decisions against you so you might as well make the most of the ones that are in your favour.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

If the umpire couldn't see it, how could I?
I think it depends upon your personal experience. We never have unbiased umpires. I've had a few shocking decisions go against me so I'd take full advantage of such a situation.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

i have to agree, that at some points last season we gave decisions as we saw them and then the oppo were completely the other way! ::)

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

The umpires there to give you out or give you not out, therefore I make them do as much work as possible by not walking :p. I'm normally out bowled though, so there's no point waiting for the umpire, unless your name is Harbhajan Singh of course :p

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I think it still exists but a lot of people have their experiences shaped by rubbish umpiring over the years. I mean, on a Sunday game or a friendly, I'll walk if I know I'm out but a league game is slightly different.

There can be a bit of needle in those games and you're just as likely to receive a rubbish decision against you - probably more likely I reckon than one in your favour.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I walk away 90% of the times when I've nicked the ball, the other 10% would be when the team is having a tough time, and you have to make the most of any sort of mistakes at that point.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

Well - since it is recreational sport - played for enjoyment and the umpires can often be your team mates - and if I know i've nicked it I will walk 100% of the time and I would expect my team to do the same - yes sometimes you get dodgy decisions anyway - but if I were to score runs after knowingly not walked I personally would feel like I was cheating! But hey each to their own! ;)

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

i guess it really comes down to each player! if u can live with cheating then so be it! ;)

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I think if you know you`re out, you`re out simple as that. Instead of thinking that not walking evens things up for the bad decisions, maybe the bad decisions evens things up for not walking?????
