Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I'd be more likely to pitch a tent up and start a camp fire to get my point across than walk when i know im not out...tbh id be likly to pitch a tent up even after the umpire gave me out when i know im not for 1 reason:as a bowler i get pissed off with crap descions when im bowling from umpires..... id rather get dragged off by my team whilst having a rant at the umpire and appealing players

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

Yeah, no-one's suggesting to walk when you KNOW you're not out. Same thing if you are genuinely unsure. It's the issue of not walking when you know you're out and the umpire doesn't give it.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

well, if the umpires getting paid to make correct decions why should we interfer with his job?

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I think one issue is that the majority of us do not have paid umpires! - and again if you know you have hit it - why would you not walk??? To me it is like stealing - would you say it is the shop owners responsibility to stop me shop lifting something as its his job?? I think not - you wouldn't steal (hopefully!) because it is morally wrong ... ;)

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

you want to go to Harlow (i used to work there) and its their job to steal as much as they can before you do notice!

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

if your in a shop and yu give a £5 note but they giv you change for£10 what would you honestly do? give it back or look at it as being a good day on my behalf?

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

Unquestionably give it back.

... and I have on every occasion it has happened to me even if it has required me to go out of my way to do it - in my mind honesty is honesty is honesty - we are all different with different attitudes and values but I was brought up with "Mrs Do As You Would Be Done By" from Charles Kingsleys' "The Water Babies" - so I would appreciate the same conduct from other people - it doesn't always happen but I'd rather know that I personally had 'done the right thing' ! But as I say we are all different and live by different codes of ethics - mine wouldn't allow me to not walk if I had hit it whether I am on 0 or 99 (wishful thinking!) or whether my team is 1 run from winning a tight finish - nick it - clean catch - walk - its a simple game played by simple people!! :D

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

the worlds not a pretty place though... u can't expect to get by being a saint to people it just doesn't happen it's almost as if your a fundamentalist ...the bible say's it is so it is. The bible say's be honest, love one another,,,fair enough you can do that being fundamentalist but the bible also say's women should cover themselves in the crowd and homosexuals should be stoned.

If the world offers you something in your favour, snatch it fast and don't feel guilty. You were smart, someone else was thick,,,,unlucky.

That's a good question actually, me personally I would keep the money but then I would walk if I knew I was out. Strange...

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I made no biblical reference and would never do - that is a completely different kettle of fish based on, IMHO myth. People are entitled to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt others. To say that because I believe in honesty as being the best policy - does not make me want women to cover up (in fact in my book quite the opposite! :D) Homosexuals can be as sober or as stoned as they like same as anyone else ...... :)

Personally I choose to be honest - if someone makes a mistake in my favour that can be rectified I'll rectify it - I play sport for enjoyment and I'll play hard and to win - but absolutely always in what I regard as the spirit of the game which is with honesty and integrity.

The world is not a pretty place and I for one choose not to make it any uglier!

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

i see where your coming from but you can't change the world on your own .... i think the phrase " if u can't beat them, join them comes into play here"

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

That would only add to the cumulative negative load! - No quite happy to do my own thing with honesty and integrity and hopefully my children will carry on in the same vain - others can do as they please but I will not compromise my moral code of conduct! but hey makes lively debate! :D

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

I can't really say from experience (I've only been out caught behind once), but when someone blatantly edged it and didn't walk because they weren't given out (the umpire later said that he saw the movement but never heard the noise, even though my coach on the boundary heard it). What happened is that he went on and made a 50 and completely snuffed out any chance of a win, however small it was. Whilst I believe it is the umpires jobs to give people out, I also think that umpires need any help they can get, because it is a tough job, as the Border-Gavaskar trophy showed.

Thats my two cents :D

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

so shall we come to an agreement :D... if its an unimportant game walk....if its the final of a leugue or a matter of staying up don' walk

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

For me it depends on my mood. If the opposition play cleanly then so do I. If the pull a few underhand tricks then I dont hesitate. I used to be honest when I started playing but after a few bad experiences I got really pissed off and decided to give it back to them.

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

..sorry can't agree to that either - if I've nicked it I've nicked it - doesn't matter on the importance of the game .... ;)

Re: Should you stay or should you go!

 what about if you where in a game where a national scout was watching...nd its the difference between glory and club cricket

I can see what your saying but as someone pointed out earlier you will now be pissing off teams and getting stuck in the same vicious circle .. so their player gives up on being honest and creates more bad feeling with the next team ... I know we will come up against 'bad sports' this year and already our team wants to get up and at them so we will be even more motivated for those dodgy sides - so they better watch out ... yeah I bet they are really quaking in their pads now ...!!
