Subbies 2011/12

Looks like the standard of Subbies will continue to rise. Few big signings across the board. Saw that Andrew King from Caulfield has moved across to Premier, playing for FItzroy. That's on the back of 2-3 good seasons, so it'll be interesting to see how he goes. Matthew Inness is an interesting one, did he play this season?

The VSDCA Selection Panel have announced the following 23 players from which the 2011/12 Team of the Year will be named.

Each club will have the opportunity to submit one entry attempting to match the selectors final XII in batting order, plus naming a captain. Team and winning club will be announced on the HATCH Medal night.

M.ALLEN (Melton), B.BARRY (Preston), S.CONWAY (Malvern), P.CROSS (Caulfield), R.DAMIANO (Caulfield), S.DEAN (Werribee), F.GILL (Kew), D.GLEDHILL (Kew), B.HODGES (Williamstown), L.INGRAM (Plenty Valley), A.KING (Caulfield),

G'day Guys,

If you could encourage your club to submit their entries for this ASAP, would be appreciated. So far have only received a handful, really want all 28 clubs to enter. The prize of 6 Kookas at $420 odd RRP is certainly worthwhile to the club that wins it!

Thanks

B&G, where does it need to go to?

Happy to do on behalf of Kingston Saints if it hasn't been done.

Great effort by King he is a good bowler and you're right it will be interesting to see how he goes next season. I don't think Inness played this year but have heard he is as fit as ever and ready to go so hopefully he can inflict some damage next season.

Certainly will be fit, has been strength and conditioning coach for the WA shield side for a few years. Blokes like that don't blow out in a year or two.

Brighton have bolstered their squad with the arrival of Peter Manser from Carlton. Considering he made the District Team of the year not that long ago, and has represented Victoria 2nd XI, this should be a good addition. Brighton have finished 7th or 8th the last 3 years, so hopefully can crack the top 6.

Very good get! Bowlers are certainly the flavour of the month! Does someone from Brighton have a conenction with him?

Yep, he's best mates with Dale McDonald, and played a T20 game last year as our guest. Considering he's only 28 and fit, should be very very good at subbies level. Brighton's bowling has been strong enough over the past 3-4 years, just need a few batsmen to step up.

Ingram a suprise winner! Cannot for the life of me work out how Gill didn't finish in the top 3. And what about the clip Darren Callahan Plenty Valley's President gave when accepting the medal saying that it would have been nice if Ingram made the team of the year. Just be thankful he won gee wizz!!

Fair call I thought. How can you be voted best player in the comp but not in the best team? Can't remember the last time a Brownlow medallist missed All Australian.

I also would not have taken offence at PV's President's comments. On p20 of this thread 12345 alludes to the fact that, in a good team, fellow members may, in effect, be competing with each other for points. Did Gledhill, et al, gain many points making it harder for Gill to poll well?

I think the Willi poster is spot on - he would have been a remarkable choice in TOTY. Not including finals, his stats dont add up against others who made the team.

In the North/West group, 8 batsmen made more runs than him, and 6 bowlers took more wickets than him. In South, 17 batsmen made more runs and 2 took more wickets. So he's behind 25 batsmen and 8 bowlers for a spot.

I can understand how someone in a team with less stars, can be competing with less players to earn votes for the medal. But to suggest he was hard done by to not make team of the year and that it was "a joke" according to the papers, is stretching it.
