Subbies 2011/12

Made sense to create a new thread for a new season....so to start, how are the first games measuring up according to everyones predictions?

watched day 1 of willy v brunswick on the w/e due to my game being washed out.......

interesting 1st day saw willy get on top just before tea through over rate and a batting partnership not really looking to score.....45-46 overs up at tea the wicks being 4-90 odd.....2 run outs after tea of the set batsmen put willy in front....with hopkins batting well for 70 odd and knox 50 not out did some big hitting down the bottom.....willy chasing 230 will need big contributions from the top 6 bats....tough score 230 odd......if sheeds gets a few and the boys bat around him there will be no doubt 6 pts for willy......good contest never the less......

cheers

some good results on the weekend boys...?
The Willy Brunswick game was a cracker. Willy 4-19 chasing 223 with Sheedy out never ever win but Hodges 125 and Rainone 67 put on 187 for the 5 wicket. Then Willy lost 3 for nothing and were in trouble again. Hodges then steadied and they were 7/222 before losing 2-0 and ended up getting them 9 down. Incredible game.

apparently Harwood was sharp, but there young kid of 16 played him ok and after the young fella got out Harwood told him he played well (in a nice way), which was what its about. apparently a scientist is using the brains of the rest of the team as a blue print for an idiot.

Melton v Preston game. Good challenge for the Lions, being the 'hunted' for season 2011/2012
Preston bats showed good resistance!
Showers came and made it tough conditions for the bowlers after tea. (no excuses if Melton had of lost)
Stand outs for the game were Brown making a patient 49 n.o and taking a 5 fa, while Harrison played a crucial role in bringing the points home for Melton with a knock of 40 and a game breaking 3 fa, when the game was in the balance.
Overall, a good, hard fought slog for the first game of the season.

Oh! Club me to death with your rapier like wit!!! This sort of crap might be OK in the DVCA where it appears you do your best work but at this level we try to a little better. It appears you have some vested interest in "the young kid of 16" but most first X1 side s have one and no one checks for birth cerificates. Good luck to him if he gets a wrap from Harwood because apparently he doesn't hand them out easily and "the kid of 16" certainly doesn't need you to make a clown of yourelf here. Now back to the DVCA site, there's a good boy.

Short and wide by name and by post as well. Someone uses 3rd hand information and heresay in a post and all of a sudden they have a vested interest. Strange. You obviously don't want BGITW to leave this forum with your post do you.

Both teams were neck and neck for most of the game.
Good call Channels. Preston misread the game situation and threw it away with bad shots at the end. Good lessons learnt though by the less experienced Preston team. For Melton Harwood bowled well and the young fast bowler and keeper looked good for Melton. Lower order did well for Melton in week 1 as they were struggling. Pitch was hard but the ground, despite being mowed must rate as the slowest outfield I have seen. Locals say it dies off in the heat so should score higher after xmas. No doubt Preston already looking forward to their next meeting with Melton. Kew v Melton will be a good match.

Interesting that some of you guys are rating Preston quite highly; word out of Cramer Street was that they'd be thrilled to not concede 10 points against Melton and Kew in their two dayers this season.

I couldn't give a rats' arse if he posts here 24/7.

What I find offensive is someone who uses "3rd hand information and heresay" (your words) to denigrate another club in a competion that, apparently he has no intererest in ,and clearly, knows nothing about. To label as "idiots," a collective group that includes Michael Allen, a Ryder Medalist and current Subbies captain of the year, Nathan Geisler, a former Premier Cricket first X1 captain, David Kirk and Jimmy Wheelahan, who were both named in the Subbies team of the year squad and a couple of really talented youngsters, is the behavour of an ill informed clown.

However, it is good to see you, Goliath, after 250 odd posts on another site put up what appears, prima facie, to be a concise and balanced report of the the Lions V Bullants game. It is always encouraging when someone in the local comp, wants "to play higher".

I don't know whether you play at Melton or have watched them play but when it comes to trying to intimidate your opposition Melton are right up there. That is all fine too but provided you don't step over the mark and be a total ************ you will still have the respect of your opponent. Of the players that do all the talking at Melton most try and intimidate but know the boundaries between tough opponent and ************. However in last weeks game there were a couple of players who were, and probably are most of the time, idiots( and its not Harwood. He is a pro.) and unfortunately everyone in the team gets labled the same. However as a unit if you want to play it tough you have to expect to cop critisism. Doesn't matter who you have playing for your club. Thats part of the game. People that want to sledge shouldn't be easily offended themselves.

Not an unreasonable position, Every one who has played over 3 years gets to run into them and every other club ,and you're right, they take no prisoners.

But let me tell you, the boys from Cramer Street didn't get to be the most successful club in Subbies over the past 50 years by being choir boys.

Lowey and Brown have the respect of every player in the comp. but you don't want to be thin skinned when those lads are giving you a character reference.

My point remains that It has been sorted out on and off the ground for years with an attitude of mutual respect and we don't need "third parties" or, dare I say it , "Johnny come latelies", from outside the competition having their two cents worth. If you plan on following the Bullants around this year you would do well to remember that. Good luck.

From what I heard last Saturday that was not the word coming from the visitors rooms at Melton.

Surely a bit of sledging is OK, as long as it doesn't go over the mark, it actually makes for some good fun. That being said, sledging in Subbies doesn't come close to some other comps.

Very gentlemanly these days SS,you should have played against Brown,Proffit,AAnensen and co from Port in the old days.
Round 2 tips for tomorrow;
Plenty Valley v Brunswick-The wickers just beaten in a thriller last by Willy, that form might be good enough to see them get the points here.
Willy v Preston[at Cramer St-probably match of the day,Preston served it right up to Melton last week and might get home in a beauty,Willys keeper back in form with a big hundred and he could be the key again.
Yarra v Melton-Black Caviar odds on offer here,Melton have probably won as many on the trot as the great mare and they'll extend the sequence here.
Balwyn v Sunshine-the home side in a canter against the perennial cellar dwellers.
Ivanhoe v Werribee-hard one to pick, maybe the tigers with S.Dean ready to fire.
Altona v Kew-the As showed some ticker getting home against Coburg but will need to play better if they're going to worry the new look Kew.
Broady v Coburg-another close one here, will go Broady with no confidence.
Lets hope for a rain free day, anyone want to have a go at Sth/East?

I'll have a crack at Sth/East
Oakleigh v Noble Park - Match of the round in this group. Oaks need to bounce back after poor first up effort, and should. Return of Monkey to help
Elsternwick v Croydon - Another good game. Wickers unlucky last week and Cockies in ominous form. Flip of the coin.
Moorabbin v Ormond - Moorabbin to win only because Ormond were terrible last week
Bayswater v Caulfield - Encouraging batting from Waters last week, but bowlers will be in for another tough one against too-strong Caulfield
Box Hill v Kingston Saints - Big chase to win two down last week by the Saints. Form says they win comfortably
Brighton v Mount Waverley - Two first-up winners with unrecognisable sides. Maybe the home side? This week should tell us more about each
Malvern v Endeavour Hills - Black Caviar odds again. Roosters percentage booster.

Funny you say that Piston, I've heard plenty who say that re Port, however, Phil 'Bubbles' O'Meara has hardly said a bad word over the 15+ years he's been with us, although he has come up with some funny quips!

Plenty of colour on the radar unfortunately, looks like the races again.
in the unlikely event of play,here is a shortened preview;
Preston to beat Plenty Valley.
Melton to beat Willy.
Balwyn to beat Brunswick.
Ivanhoe maybe to beat Sunshine.
Altona to beat Werribee.
Kew to beat Broady.
Coburg to beat Yarraville.
Did the powers that be stuff up last week calling off play too early?,what will they do tomorrow I wonder?
