Subbies Thread

By all accounts he had a falling out with the coach leading in to the 2nd round of Premier, not to sure what it was about. It was Altona or Werribee but with the amount of Spinners Altona have decided to go to Werribee.
He has struggled to get a regular game after they won the premiership with the inclusion of Hart. There was some talk he would switch clubs over summer possibly to Northcote. He's far to good to be playing premier 2s each week so maybe he has taken a step back to enjoy his Cricket again?

Just to clear up a potential misunderstanding of your post by those who do not follow FE's fortunes, Michael Kelly played in the premiership team Hart not then having joined FE. He will enjoy his cricket playing for Werribee for free of course ( pardon the sarcasm).

Interesting sidenote from the weekend was the news that Baldry is having a year off. Still think Caulfield will win North/South but that makes it a little tougher. Is there anything behind the scenes? Hard to understand having a year off when they look past the post.

As well as no Baldry, there was no Warren (injured?), no Lewis (20/20 only?), no Schlittler (?) and no Clements (?). Ormond had only 3 members of their 14/15 flag winning team turn out in Round 1, looks like the dividend being phased out is kicking in for some clubs.

Thoughts on changing subbies fixtures to all one dayers? 50 overs a side, more games, fair to both sides, better availability.

There will only be 2 2-day games before Xmas. And the first one won't be till mid November. Just doesn't make sense.

What a joke that we r dedicating a whole Saturday to a 20/20 game next round. Crazy decision by subbies. Surely they can change this to a one day game instead given 2 saturdays have already been abandoned.

Some batsmen will not even get a hit this season until December. That's a pretty long wait after preseason starting in August.

I like the idea of playing 50 over one dayers all year. Playing Saturday/Saturday only really happens in Australia. Cricketers around the world think that what we do is quite bizarre considering the change in pitch conditions from week to week.

if you bowled in blocks of 10 overs from 1 end you could save the time to squeeze in an extra 10 overs play.
Games could start at 1.00 with a finish time of around 7.00.
That said - I like our style of cricket - if all the season was 1 dayers it would not be much fun for the blokes batting below 5

Not for mine, two day cricket is still the best way to play the game at our level.

Brad Erasmus from Elsternwick Cricket Club is the best cricketer in subbies. Today's man of the match performance was 148 runs including 5x6s (on the biggest ground in the comp) and 4 poles. Super Impressive. Finals are a real possibility for this up and coming talented side.

Political decision that he didn't win the best u21 player on subbies pres night last year...

Just a quick one, but I'm not sure why we are bowling 5 over blocks from each end on Saturday. That only ever happened to save time during evening games before it got dark. Surely just stick to normal T20 rules. Also reckon the start times could have been a bit earlier. Just a thought for next year.

Could not agree more!! By doing this, it seems that the executive have just thrown a T20 in as a novelty fixture.
Don't get me started on playing the game for FULL points. How can you play a game of competitve cricket which is for full points when you are bowling in 5 over blocks.
If the competition is going to be serious about T20 cricket, leave it to the first & second grade and play them over a Sat/Sun in a 3 team format, that way, each team plays 4 T20s over a weekend and with no bolwing of 5 over blocks and you obtain 2 points for each win.

Interesting to see the slow start to the season for Caulfield. Big game for them against oakleigh next week. The north south is very tight it seems with any team on its day able to beat anyone
