The BaggyGreens Thread

Had hi hopes for Wyllie, very disappointing. I have closely followed the WACA Premier jr grades for last three seasons and dont see any stand out youngsters on the horizon. A few middle orders and all rounders only. No one is bashing down the door in First Grade or Seconds either as WA cricket is gonna need someone to replace the ageing Whiteman and Bancroft in a few years, if not sooner.

Teague is smashing it in premier cricket as usual.

Douwtjie Hoogenboezem (can’t find how old he is but early 20s by the sound of it) has been doing well for Fremantle cc and has just signed with South Australia for 25/26 Sheffield shield. Which is frankly hilarious for WA.

Lochie Hardy (25yo) averaged 44.88 last season with lots of starts but only 2 100s.

Was gonna mention Hardy but not sure if he is a specialist opener. I saw one of those tons, classy.

Good to see Australia drop players for that poor world test final, we made the mistake of not blooding some youth when Warne and the Waugh twins plus McGrath all got too old.

Aussie First Windies Test X1 (bold): Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matt Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster

My batting Top 7.
Khawaja
Konstas
Inglis
Green
Head
Carey
Webster

I don’t like having Inglis at 3 but I don’t see many better options with the XI.

Only other thing could be:

Khawaja
Konstas
Green
Head
Inglis
Carey
Webster

I’d also rather have Green at 4, but not anymore than having Head at 3.

Maybe Inglis at 3 is the right call but he hasn’t batted any higher than 4 in the shield and has most of his success at 5/6/7.

Ok so it’s confirmed, they’ve gone with:

Khawaja
Konstas
Green
Inglis
Head

They mentioned they want stability and they think Green can be a long term number 3. I agree.

Australia XI: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

Obviously Green is cool with #3. Prefer him at #4. Only the one tweaker.

Once again, the top and middle order batted poorly, they need to pull their heads in because it'd becoming a trend.

Inglis you idiot letting a ball go that he should have covered, Aussies have lost the plot with their batting.

Woeful batting by the aussies again that's 4 innings in a row.

Everyone is batting like they’ve been told to play a certain way that is nothing like how they usually play, and they suck at it.

Could have something to do with playing a No. 4 at 3 and a No. 7 at 4.

I've got the feeling we'll lose this one and if they don't start knuckling down the series will be a west indies whitewash. This team isn't what it use to be and it might be time to refresh it with some new faces.

Genuinely could be as simple as making a decent batting track so our batsmen can get some confidence. Even though they’ve been pretty bad they’ve batted on some pretty bowler friendly pitches.

I have to agree it looks like a typical Indian cow paddock wicket curated by amateur ground staff.

Harsh mate. Even the best technician is gonna struggle against this Dukes that seems to never soften or lose its seam. The only guys scoring decent runs are the late middle order. Green and Inglis were doing a good job consolidating the innings until that ball change at about over 20 with the replaced pill offering even more lateral and aerial movement than the original. Since when has Windies cricket used the English Dukes.

Those duke ball are shockers, two have already been changed over because they went out of shape
