The Final

Australia vs England.

What everyone predicted. If Australia play like they did against Pakistan in the Semis, then England needn't bother to turn up. Going to be close though.

Re: The Final

Play like they did against Pakistan? You mean concede the highest score of the tournament, collapse badly with the bat and have Mike Hussey pull off the miracle of cricket thanks to some appalling captaincy?

If they play like they did against Pakistan then England will win comfortably

Just on your point in another thread but its more relevant to this final, you claimed that England would be in trouble without KP, ignoring the fact they won even when he didnt play, but I think its fair to say that Australia would be ****ed without Hussey, he has saved them so often this tournament, sure every batsman bar Clarke and Haddin have performed at some point, but Hussey and White are the only 2 to do so consistently

If Hussey wasnt playing then Australia would probably have Smith at 7 and be playing Hauritz and we saw how well Smith does under pressure last night...

England has the deepest batting lineup of the 2 sides batting down to no10 with Broad, Swann and Bresnan, it will be the battle though of Nannes and Tait v Lumb, Kiewswetter and KP that decides the game, England has been brilliant at the top of the order and even with middle order collapses have always had someone to win the game, if they can get a good start against Australias best 2 bowlers they will go a long way towards winning the game, they are also well placed in that Sidebottom and Broad have been sensational at the death of the innings where Australia has required some super human feats to win games, they wont get a poor spinner bowling the last over in the final

Other trouble for Australia is teams have managed to hold Englands scoring rate down with spin in the opening overs, Australia dont have that ability with Smith and Clarke bowling poorly and Dussey too effective in the middle to waste at the top

Re: The Final

agree with above

Should be a good game, and annything could happen

I think england might be slightly edging it , but we shall see!

Re: The Final

It appears my last post no longer exists, but anyway.

The last game was the only game that Australia haven't absolutely steam rolled the other team. The only other game that had the chance of going the other way Hussey and Smith put together a simple and normal little partnership at the end to put it back on track.

Hussey is in form, White is in form, and the others are likely to go off at any time, plus Australia's likelihood of keeping their cool is a fair bet.

Australia are favourites in my mind, but I'm not averse to an English win, after all they do need another trophy to keep the Ashes company. :D

Re: The Final

Really looking forward to this game, good to see the 2 best sides get through thanks to the heroics of Michael Hussey

Who you bagged before the tournament started saying he was the most expendable batsman in the Australian line-up. ;)

Hardly. Saeed Ajmal is one of the best spinners in Twenty20 cricket at the moment. Before the game against Australia, Saeed Ajmal's career economy rate was below six an over and had an average of around 13, which ranks up there with Vettori as one of the most economical and best bowlers in T20 cricket, even better than Graeme Swann.

Hussey played a one of those rare innings you don't see often, pure strokeplay at it's finest. No bowler would have stopped him in that final over.

Re: The Final

Game gets underway very shortly. Both sides are unchanged and England won the toss with Collingwood deciding to bowl first.

Australia XI: David Warner, Shane Watson, +Brad Haddin, *Michael Clarke, David Hussey, Cameron White, Michael Hussey, Steven Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Dirk Nannes, Shain Tait

England XI: Michael Lumb, +Craig Kieswetter, Kevin Pietersen, *Paul Collingwood, Eoin Morgan, Luke Wright, Tim Bresnan, Graeme Swann, Michael Yardy, Stuart Broad, Ryan Sidebottom

Re: The Final

Watson gone early. Flashes at a short ball from Sidebottom, Kieswetter couldn't take the catch but Swann catches it after it pops us off Kieswetter's gloves.

1/2 and Clarke brings himself in at 3.

Re: The Final

Uh-oh, now David Warner is run-out. Clarke pushes to cover, Warner sprints down the other end but Lumb is already onto the ball and underarms the ball onto the stumps with Warner well short.

2/8 after 2 overs.

Re: The Final

And another one. Down the leg-side from Sidbottom, Haddin swings hard, the ball ricochets off his thigh pad and Kieswetter takes a great diving catch. Unlucky for Haddin but he has to go.

3/10 in the 3rd over. Australia really struggling at the moment.

should hope so, 54 off 11 overs for 4 now.
Thats not even 5 RPO! altho its gone up a bit with the spinners introduction, as they are running a lot of singles whilst pitching it up to avoid airborn

Re: The Final

poor 12th over from eng, good first ball, second was on leg and D Hussey smacked for 6, full toss for 4 over long on then good ball smacked into cow corner for 6 followed by a well placed 4

Re: The Final

White scores 21 off that over from Yardy.

4/80 after 13 overs now, run rate has shot up from less than five to over six. Australia really need White to take most of the strike and score big runs now. David Hussey has done well to stay in but has scored far too slowly and taken up a lot of deliveries.

white got 14 hussey got 7 of them

Re: The Final

White down to Wright, broad taking a sky high catch with the wind after dropping dj hussey the over before on a high ball.
nearly run out M hussey 2 balls later but missed the hit by inches.

Re: The Final

Can we play you, can we play you, caaaaaan we play you every week? :D

A great win for England, made all the more satisfying that it is over the old arch-enemy. Having endured so much stick before 2005, England are well on their way to becoming consistantly a better team than Australia. Only time will tell about that though, seeing as this was only one match.

Before the semis, Australia were much the better side but, as Bumble said during the match, "Australia played their cup final against Pakistan." Australia were outplayed in most areas, I thought.

After all of this though, I'd give it all up for a series win Down Under, next winter.
