The Lounge 2

This should probably go in the appropriate Russian Invasion thread but I think it will be better seen here. Sorry to bring this war into our lounge room. If you wish I will delete and move it.
The clip is from an interview from Russian state tv and the man speaking is a realist unlike his commander in chief. I found it fascinating.

It was also spread by our news agencies. It's telling that only retired Russian officers dare to speak out just as any military analysis of the war from a NATO perspective is exclusively given by ex-military officers over here as well. The Russian media as well as the leading circles surely didn't want to hear it. It's too early, though, to assume that Putin's army is on the verge of collapsing. A lot a aid will still be necessary to help Ukraine prevent the worst.

Precisely.. plus the general populace too.. or would a D Notice have been applied on such a damaging interview. The people need to hear this kind of realism and rebel against their warmongering regime.

In view of the forthcoming election, what is your stance on this? Is Australia becoming unliveable and uninsurable?

These weather phenomenoms are devastating both for families and the nation. That is the sad truth. Luckily we dont live in the northern part of Australia which is becoming the most unliveable and uninsurable state. Climate change will ensure that we will continue to have more extreme weather going forward.

Not a happy chappy this morning after my dumb countrymen voted out Sco Mo yesterday. This bloke steered us thru almost three of the worst years in our history to bring us out the other side to now be one of the developed world's most resilient economies. The centre/left Labor candidate promised plenty so he had better deliver.. specially on mass manufacturing, renewables, including doubling our EVs and building hundreds more Australian designed charging stations.

Scummo is a fraud and will go down as a fairly poor Prime Minister. The last nine years of government from the conservative Liberal Party have been exceptionally bad with Scummo's four or so years in charge having been rubbish. The Australian people voted for change and they turfed out a government that has underperformed and quite frankly done a garbage job.

The list of stuff this government has done over the past few years is quite the read.

  • Botched the NBN by scrapping the FTTP option and opting for FTTN or FTTC methods to try and save money. It was then realised that the FTTN and FTTC options weren't fit for purpose long term and had to commit to the FTTP option at a cost of an extra $20B more than what it would had they went with the FTTP option as the previous Labor government originally had in place.
  • Completely stuffed up the opening period of the COVID-19 pandemic, so much so that the states and territories had to take charge of quarantine even though it is a federal responsibility as per the constitution.
  • Screwed up the delivery of vaccines for the pandemic which left the country waiting for vaccines while other countries were way ahead on delivering first and sometimes second doses to their citizens before Australia even had vaccines to administer.
  • Refused to do anything about climate change and the environment and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to commit to a carbon neutral target by 2050 as well refusing to increase their short term 2035 target. We then had a Prime Minister who went on holiday when half the country was on fire with the party hesitant to acknowledge that climate change has played any part in the extreme weather events that Australia has had in recent times (fires, floods, drought, etc.).
  • Alienated women in the country with the ongoing situations regarding sexual misconduct involving former staffers and also sitting politicians, most of it was swept under the carpet rather then actually being dealt with properly.
  • More than doubled the country's debt so it is now approaching $1T and have failed to deliver a surplus in that time.
  • Refusing to commit to an ICAC which is sorely needed.
  • Large rises in the cost of living which has become a real issue for a number of people in the country.
  • Handing out tax cuts which mostly benefit the country's wealthiest people with those on smaller salaries getting hardly anything. There are more tax cuts to come in in 2023/24 which will again benefit the country's wealthiest citizens and deliver extra money into the economy which is not what is needed with inflation at a high level, similar to many other parts of the world.
  • Morrison has also been criticised by members of his own party and labelled a bully which reflects poorly on him as a leader.

There are other things that have happened along the way but it is easy to see why Australia voted out this muppet and his band of idiots. The people of this country had quite clearly had enough and wanted change, something which the conservatives were not willing to deliver, particularly when it comes to the environment and climate change which is now very much a central issue given the extreme weather events in recent times.

Hopefully the newly elected Labor government will be able to deliver on what they have promised and given a decent run at it. This country needs some proper leadership and needs to be in step with the rest of the developed world when it comes to matters of the environment and has been lagging behind having been led by a party which won't acknowledge its existence.

Liberal party are too dodgey.

Labor part rules this time.

Bash the man all you like.. this is a democatic country but there is no denying Sco Mo also did plenty while PM in the interests of all Australians. He 'manned up" when he admitted he had made mistakes. Perhaps a touch late to change votes. Sco Mo did a good job diplomatically on the world stage too. He was well respected by our allies and probably underneath the surface, by our enemies too. Will Albo not make mistakes. He already showed us what a political muppet he is during the campaign. He will need to improve otherwise as our leader otherwise he'll fall head first off that global stage.

Some achievements by the Morrison Govt.

*2018: National Apology to victims of institutional child sexual abuse.

2018: Royal Commission into aged care quality and safety.

*2018: National Drought Summit:
Bringing together representatives from farming, agribusiness, governmental, banking and finance and community organisations. plus a $5 billion fund for drought relief.

*2018: ‘Pivot to the Pacific’
An initiative to increase emphasis on Pacific nations in Australia’s international relations, including increased defence cooperation and a $2 billion infrastructure development fund.

*2019: Banking Royal Commission.

*2019: Medical transfer of refugees.

*2019: Announces income tax cuts.

*2020: Moved quickly to close borders against the Coronavirus pandemic. Introduced Job Keeper and Job Seeker to keep Australians employed during the pandemic. Gave Australians jobs by making PPE products for medical staff and ICU respirators when overseas supply chains stopped. This also included putting Aust CSL scientists to work making the Covid vaccine locally.

* 2020: Instigated an inquiry into the origins of the Pandemic.

* 2020: Announces huge investment in local manufacturing to get dormant factories out of mothballs.

* 2021
: Makes the hard decision to cancel overpriced conventional sub contract with France and join with US, UK to form the security alliance AUKUS to produce better nuke powered subs instead.

*2021
:
Australia signs a major multi billion dollar trade deal with India.
This will be a huge boost for Australian farmers and miners to sell their produce in a large, new market outside of China.

A touch hypocritical that. Your mob are notorious for putting our country into massive debt then when you are turfed out the Libs have to pay it.. making our cost of living skyrocket.

You and I both know why our national debt has almost doubled. The pandemic and our security. At least we are not in as bad shape as some of our developed nation allies. US & UK specially are in a economic pickle.. not surprised if twice as bad as us.
Yes the Libs failed to deliver a surplus during the worst global heath crisis in a century. How surprising.
We had to spend more on our defense with China posing a massive threat to the world and specially in our own back yard.

What! Govt had the vaxine situation under control due to our own global bio tech company CSL manufacturing 5m doses of A/Z in its Melbourne lab, one of the first of few nations to do so. There was a hold up at one early stage when a locally-produced vax by QLD Uni was cancelled just as it was about to come onto the market. A situation beyond the govt's control.

That I do agree with and was probably the main reason the Libs were turfed out. But it must be remembered that Morrison always said the Libs would lower carbon emissions by seeking cleaner renewable energy yet keep some fossil fuels and phase them out over time as our economy will continue to need the massive export revenue. This cleaner energy is largely still in the ground or in early production stage so the Lib's stance was not only correct but sensible. If your mates the Greens had their way they will cease fossil fuel usage next year. Bloody madness. Then we will have twice the cost of living than at present. What is Labor's stance on fossil fuels exactly.
