Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

A great idea... and DT would make an excellent mod. The vespa will need a new lick of paint though :D.

In the nicest possible way, navigating this thread is a bit like wading through treacle. The worse thing is when you know you have read something recently you want to refer back to and it takes forever. Sometimes it feels like I'm caught in a rip!

Just my tuppence worth, as I do try to stay out of this area for the above reason, it would be great, and make a lot of sense, to keep the spinners together, then split it into wrist, finger, leg, off, top, bottom, insideout etc. If this is the case, 'spin bowling' would be the best name... or 'dark arts'.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

My Vespa died long ago having done 40,000 + miles in just 3 years on 125cc engine! Yeah I reckon 'Spin Bowling' it's probably more likely to be picked up in google searches?

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

Afternoon gents - computer issues at the moment so I can't spend too long here. I'm pleased to see that we have our own forum now (well, only sharing with finger-tweakers). I was now watching some of the IPL on ITV4 for the first time ever - Royals vs Kings' XI and saw this Chawla chap - what is the opinion here on him ?

Not seen too much IPL, so haven't come across this bloke - I take it he's a wristy?

Yes Dave - if you do a Youtube search for Piyush Chawla, there are a few videos of him. He has what to me seems like a strange, scuttling approach, quite side-on delivery but a weird arm and hand action just before he delivers the ball. Actually, it's because he has a very low front arm, and this gives the impression that he is doing this strange movement.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

Apparently, he played against England when we toured India in 2006 when he was only a teenager, and will be Sussex's overseas professional once the IPL finishes.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

I'll have a look...........

All the videos I looked at he was getting smashed all over the park! If he's down at Sussex he may be able to teach those two young that were on SKY with Warne in the summer a few tricks? Did you catch any of the Zimbabwe v Windies matches at all because that was a total spin-fest - Wrist and Finger spinning. One of the Zimbabwe blokes had a similar looking style to this bloke a bloke called Cremer http://www.cricinfo.com/zimbabwe/content/player/55346.html he took a few wickets. You should check it out (Highlights) on line. They've got a brilliant finger spinner as well a bloke called Ray Price and he's such a character and a good bowler.

yeah chawla was in the india team when he first came onto their domestic scene though he didn't have much success and is only now getting back near the international team again.
He's not a bad leggie but doesn't turn it much and still bowls to many googlies, i'd much rather watch mishra bowl though. Chawla has made the india squad for the t20 world cup though ahead of mishra as the 2nd spinner. Chawla should be playing for surrey(not sussex) in the county scene this year after the t20 world cup finishes in mid may though this maybe in doubt as the india cricket board is not allowing clearance for india contracted players to play in england this year because of some silly dispute with the ecb.

In the ipl there are quite a few young leggies as well that people probablly wouldn't see otherwise like rahul sharma(who got tendulkar ouit the other day) and sarabjit ladda(who has a very weird quick action). Then of course there are still the old guys in warne and kumble, its a decent watch for leggies.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

I've been looking out for Kumble but only seen him once - what team is he in I may go back over the highlights as he's one of the best ever?

Nah, no Sky and I tend not to watch much cricket on TV overall. So, was Cremer the guy you watched?

Ha, I got the Sussex information from Wikipedia! I should have know it would be incorrect LOL! I'll have to look them up.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

I see what you mean about Ladda (found some footage on Youtube). He sems to take a large bound in to the crease, then whip his arm over very quickly. I wonder what speed his stock ball is? He looks to me (as does Chawla)to have poor control over the seam position. I can't find any footage of Sharma, unfortunately.

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

did anyone see Warne in the IPL the other day against Deccan Chargers? 4-13-21-4 off his spell, he clean bowled one guy with a classic leg break. drifted outside leg stump and turned back in through the gate. they looked certain to lose, but Warne took 4 in quick succession, and they managed to bowl them all out with about 3 balls left, and 3 runs needed!! it was a cracking match.

4 overs and 13 maidens?

in T20 they use dot balls instead of maidens, since a maiden over is almost impossible, and dot balls are as good as a maiden lol.

4 overs, 13 dot balls, 21 runs for 4 wickets.

Ah that makes more sense, cheers Jim.:D

Re: Wrist Spin Bowling (Part Three)

yeah warnies spell the other day was absolute magic still can't believe they won that probablly the best t20 i've seen, shows how good a captain he is to motivate the players in situations and how cricket savvy he is with the ball in his hand or as captain.

Just watched that matches highlights - yeah that's a pretty good T/20 game!

Watching him struggling though with getting down to the ball - the one that came straight back to him, which I reckon I'd have dived forwards for - is good, makes me feel like I'm doing okay with my cricket, cos I still put in full commitment. He's not turning it much either - but that might be down to the nature of the wicket - makes me feel a whole lot better about my bowling!
