Barclay Shield 2013/2014

Plenty to win one more and survive on percentage. Bakes should return and make an impact as Mernda need his bowling smarts. They'll probably defeat OPSF, who should beat Epping. Nth Eltham to win 1-2 more and I'll back Plenty to OPSF away in the last game to stay up by percentage. Probably puts Epping in the gun.

Reckon you might be right.

I am not declaring Plenty dead at all, but just out of interest. Has a club ever played off in the GF, only to be relegated the next season?

I'd be surprised if it has! If they do survive, they'll need to do heaps to re position the club as a whole. I think there 3rds and 4ths forfeited on the weekend. We were in the same position 4 seasons ago which resulted in us exploring the merge option, then swallowing some reality pills and realising survival, followed by success just doesn't happen.

In the past, clubs who find themselves with a 2-grade gap between their 1sts and their 2nds have invariably, sooner or later, found their 1sts becoming unviable.
The clubs now in this position as a by-product of the restructuring face some big hurdles.
They have to keep their 1sts competitive at the same time as they work on getting their 2nds promoted.
If they can't handle the juggling act, their 1sts will simply get weaker and weaker, because the replacements from the 2nds can't handle the jump quickly enough.

Really surprised that there hasn't been much talk about Jarrod Carlson playing at Mernda? I know he left NCC in acrimonious circumstances, but a Premier 1st XI skipper is still a big get for the formerly country boys who are now suburban.

maybe we all waiting for him to do something first!

Interesting finish coming up, can Macleod continue to run the gauntlet with tail collapsing again?

Can Rosanna get back in? Can Research hold on to their spot?

Either way it's still a Diamo/Lower Gf for mine.

Going from 4/182 to be all out for 189 - poor shot selection from most players to get themselves out.
Will be backing our bowlers to get the job done however, that is if we get a game on saturday.
Going to be a hot one.

you'll be playing, 36 forecast now...whats happening with that lower order 7/67 last match and then 6/7 this week...batting a few out of position by the looks of things or is there a 3rd wise brother you can slot in down there?

A couple of interesting results this week, that will play a big part in finals and relegation at the same time, with some really good finishes likely.

Lower Eltham 1/1 chasing Diamond Creeks 184. Lower will have to work extremely hard to get the runs already 1 down, with Diamo's strong and disciplined attack, but I will stick to my early prediction. Lower to get the points, and Diamond Creek to avenge the loss in the finals.

Research 3/20 chasing 150. Big ground compared to their postage stamp. One big scalp taken (Malone), but they need to get the other (Turner) in the first 10 overs, or its game over. Turner will get the job done and get his regulation not out.

Macleod defending 189 against Plenty 2/24. Plenty haven't fired many shots this year, but having Pavey coming in at 9 is a scary thought. Will be a cracker of a game to watch with the balance going up and down in each teams favour.

Rosanna 3/50 chasing NEW's 145. having the side 7/70 and letting them get a few away late could prove costly, but can't see Rosanna not getting the chocolates here. They will take tea to get them but not without scare from a couple of wickets.

Glad to get the points and get out of there.
Plenty have been a bogey side for us over the years.
Our bowlers did as was expected of them.

Relegation now comes down to Mernda or Plenty. Mernda play the top 2 sides so I'm tipping them to get relegated, Plenty to get the points in the next game

Agree with this. I think Plenty will win at least one of the next two and survive. Only need to win one with their percentage being greater than that of Mernda.

RECCC have cost themselves massively on the weekend.

Bundoora can still make it if they win their last two, so destiny is in their own hands.

Final 4 IMO will be:

Lower Eltham
Diamond Creek
Macleod
Rosanna

Relegation:

Mernda

So what do we make of the Research result ? Surely just a slip up .
Were you in attendance Brutal ? WTF happened
Sorry for the late reply, I've just recovered from the psychological trauma of having to watch that debacle. Hopefully a blip but in the end the lack of preparation of some individuals and poor attitude was a major contributor. Epping capitalised on this by bowling consistently good areas and using the slow ground conditions to get into the heads of the bats. Epping have the makings of a good side and will be an improver next year and into the future. One thing that did disappoint me was the admission after the game that an Epping player claimed a catch that one of his teammates admitted was not taken. Would not have affected the result but we had a similar situation against OPSF at the start of the season and they had the good sportsmanship to call the batsman back.

So many crunch games coming up especially Research v Rosanna / Creek, Macleod v Bundoora , Bundoora v Rosanna, plus the relegation games as well.
Im going to try to attend all at some stage I reckon.

There are a few captains and big fish under performing. Squeak will kick it off with a couple of obvious nominations. Jarred Williams & Mitch Johnson. Great year fellas. Sqqquuuuuuueeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

I'll nominate you for under performing on here with your constant dribble.

Cut it out tongs. Squeak has been quiet lately. I'd better put the snowmans name on that list aswell. That's a legitimate question fellas. Sqquuuueeeeaaaak!
