Subbies Thread

Having a great junior program does not necessarily help a club to get success. Kids generally go off to premier cricket pretty early if they are any good before they they actually make much of an on field contribution. If you have a large junior club the lower grade teams get full off kids playing and you lose good senior blokes as they are no longer with mates the same age and really are doing a babysitting/mentoring role which not all want to do. Social functions become really poor too. The key is trying to get them back after premier cricket which is not always easy to do as they are in a position to chase money....and lets face it sometimes life gets in the way for some. Having a strong junior club does help financially though.

I am involved at a club that has 25 junior teams...we built from 5 teams a decade ago. We currently have over 20 ex juniors at premier cricket. We have about 3 players come back so far.

Care to name another ???
CSB championship thru Division 2 VTCA Senior Division ,ECA Dunsten Sheild just to name a few and the biggest worry for the Subbies is bringing in new clubs when they have problems with Taylor Lakes and to some degree Moorabbin atm.
Maybe Subbies should look at going back to having 1st and 2nds X1 like the old days and instead of growing bigger down size with some clubs going back to the VTCA,CSB,ECA and the DDCA to continue and may have more success instead of making up the numbers.

Is that the club who's 2nds have beaten Port twice this season ! Also hear Port have a war chest ready to go.
Yes that's the one. and don't worry it hasn't gone unnoticed by management,Its games like that which they need to win, In relation to having a war chest available, only time will time, but its easier to recruit saying your a sub district club than saying your a Div 2 CSB club.

Do you get points relief or some other easy way in ? it's not just you , but Donvale are a basket case also

I did play subbies in the old days as above, but cannot see it reverting to just firsts and seconds. I simply could not imagine the clubs agreeing to do so, and nor do I think it will come up for debate. But, I do share your concern that the existing model in this day and age is not conducive to providing a level playing field. If a club, for example, finds itself in an area where the demographics have changed significantly since in was accepted into the subbies such that it now has difficulty securing local talent, it ought to seriously consider whether a competition that cannot offer a promotion and relegation system is appropriate for it going forward.

Seems to me money has a lot to do with being successful. Our middle of the road club is putting out teams on field 11, 12 or 13 points against stacked teams this year. Our council is one of the most expensive apparently and they do not recruit heavily due to it, so i have heard.

So now your calling us and Donvale basket cases, how can you say that when you not involved in the running of these respective clubs, and the answer to your question about points relief, is that will be determined by Subbies committee and its clubs so I'm told.

If we don't get the season going again which is a huge possibility the History will show No Premiers this year, so it will be a wasted year for everyone. Only difference being the huge amount of $$ some clubs paid for NO RESULT
