Australia vs England - The Ashes 2021/22

Looks to have ironed out those flaws he once had. Is standing shallower in the crease and now covers his off stump. Averaged almost @40 Test with that poor technique, imagine what he will average if given a recall when he is more mature and better technically.

We heard how Harris has changed his…I wasn’t seeing anything different this summer

First Harris has to back up that fine knock in Melbourne to prove he can do it at this level. Same as Travis Head. One swallow does not make a summer.

IMO, George Bailey and Justin Langer have missed a trick by promising Harris an extended run when his career did not warrant it. At the same time denying one of two promising openers a chance to debut in this series on home soil against a demoralized opposition. I had hoped with the appointment of Bailey that things may have changed for the better re selection policy.. but no they appear to be just as bad as before.

I agree, same with Travis Head. There needs to be an extended run of form, Head keeps making runs which will keep him in the side for the short term. Seems as if Harris will get a bit of a crack at the role, not just for the remainder of this series but beyond as well. How long he stays in the side depends on how he fares.

LJ with respect Ireland is no longer as associate nation.. tho you'd hardly think so given the paltry number of Tests they have played since gaining that status. We have yet to play them. ICC is an absolute joke when it comes to furthering the global aspirations of our sport.

Yes, I did mean teams like Scotland and other associate nations, not Ireland. Although, getting Ireland out here to play will be invaluable for them, particularly against other state sides.

The ICC are not doing a great job of this at the moment and more work needs to be done. Playing against Ireland could be done in the winter here and CA could utilise cities such as Darwin, Cairns and perhaps Brisbane for matches.

Thunderstorms predicted for all five days.. but hopefully in the evening after play. Usually when we get summer t/storms in Sydney.

Showers forecast for all five days at the moment, Wednesday and Thursday are the worst days with things better after that. Possible that the last two days may be rain free but we'll have to wait for the forecast closer to those days to know definitively what will happen. Given the forecast, I imagine there will be interruptions on days one and two with showers about.

As does Renshaw and Handscomb if we are going to recall anyone. Prefer those two over Maddo to be honest.

I don't think Handscomb is the answer, he struggled towards the back end of his last stint in the side. Khawaja probably comes into the side in place of Head for the next test you would think.

Head is covid 19 positive

Sorry I dont see the logic.. Scotland and other associates yes.. but Ireland needs to be playing Tests against us. That will raise their confidence not playing against a state side.

If we are going to recall players was my point. Renshaw looks a far improved player.. mentally more than anything else. He was in dark place for two years after loosing his baggy green. I think there was politics at play back then too.. I have been watching Handscomb and as I said he had ironed out his major flaws which saw him dumped. He is also a good player of spin and god knows we will need them on the sub continent.

So will Hunt or Street be given a berth in the Pakistan squad. Or any new faces for that matter?
Will CA look outside the current side for good players of spin.

.. because good bowlers had worked out his obvious technical flaws. But before that he had posted two centuries and four 50s and was averaging well over @40 if memory serves.

An interesting read from Steve Smith.
Four years after the MCG's pitch was formally rated 'poor' because it failed to provide bowlers with sufficient opportunity to take wickets, no less a judge than Steve Smith has declared it offered greater assistance to seamers than any he's encountered across his decade-long Test career.

It sure did. If you survived on that MCG track you earned every run. Few did. Am also hearing that the SCG will be similar as the curator has had time to prepare it this week. Perhaps he has wasted his time, with some atrocious summer weather set to hit the Test.

Hazlewood to miss his third consecutive match .. with Boland to be retained. Starc not rested either so Richardson misses out undeservedly imo as he bowled better across all of his only match rather than the great but late spell from the Victorian.. A bit of a kick in the teeth for our most promising young quick.

Baggers
