So it reached 50.7 degrees today at Onslow which is a coastal town approximately 1,440 km north of Perth in Western Australia, the temperature there today equalled the hottest recorded temperature in Australia on record. Do you have a pool at your house? Are most Aussie homes open plan?🥵

I don't have a pool at my place but I do have air conditioning and there is an aquatic centre about a three or four minute drive away. My parents also have a pool so I can go there if I need a swim.

Back to the high 30's and low 40's here next week, 38-40 from Tuesday through to Friday. Mid 20's overnight at this stage during this period as well.

What's an aquatics centre? We have them here but they keep fish in them 🤔
Mid 20s temp is my limit, anything over that then I stay indoors and melt 🥵

An aquatics centre is a local swimming centre, there's one near me that has has several pools (both indoor and outdoor) and also has a spa area, sauna, gym plus other sports facilities.

We have an aquarium as well which is what you're referring to in your post.

There's an indoor swimming pool and slides on Blackpool seafront which isn't too far from where I am, the slides are huge and travel outside the building then back inside again, it's a great place to be during the summer.

Nice, I imagine that would be a popular place to be during the summer there.

The aquatics centre here has several pools both indoor and outdoor for lap swimming and also leisure purposes as well plus an activity area for the kids too. They also offer formal swimming lessons which are compulsory during lower schooling here plus the usual gym services, leisure sports/courts and several other facilities. There's also a creche and café as well.

I wish we had compulsory swimming lessons as a kid, we had the odd lesson but it wasn't consistent or enough to learn to swim, I remember going under water because I'd wondered into the deep end.
I actually learnt to swim when I left primary school and went to the pool with my siblings during the summer holidays, that's when I learnt to swim 🤗

Jess I learnt to swim in our local weir as my home town was yonks from a public pool or the coast and my father could not afford a car.

Hoping the rain stays away as I just hung my washing. This must be our wettest summer in yonks. Does save on having to tap fill the pool tho.

Swimming lessons are compulsory here up until the end of primary school, after that it is down to personal choice. It's a really good way to teach children to learn how to swim and to do it competently from a young age. Swimming is something that happens for most of the year here with the weather enabling that so being able to know how to swim is essential if you're around the water.

I love to hang washing out on my washing line, I prefer that to using the dryer but lately have to use the dryer due to our freezing weather.🥶

The Aussies are always great swimmers, love to watch the swimming during the Olympics.

I've watched people on YouTube caught in a rip tide, they say the best way to survive is to stay in the rip until the current slows right down and then swim around it back to shore, have you ever seen or been caught in one?

That's great Richie. 🤗
I've swam many times in the River Dee, it runs through Chester and we used to go there during the summer evenings and cool off. I've also swam in open sea when we took a boat ride in Spain, I wasn't keen on that though as it was too far from the shore for my liking.

Jessica the Pom.. you are a card and a good sport girl. So pleased you are on our forum.

I have seen that river in Chester. There is also a lake in Chester that a friend of mine used to frequent when she went on bike rides. You can take out boats and there are swans swimming idily. You been there Jessica?

Thanks Richie 🤗

I only know of the River Dee, you can hire a boat there in the summer, the type that you peddle like mad but get nowhere.

Swimming in rivers? Our rivers were too polluted for anyone to swim in them. Until today I've never done that and would only do it in a case of emergency.
I was lucky because there was a public indoor swimming pool in our city. My mother encouraged us to join that local swimming club. My brother and I did not only learn to swim but trained regularly (twice a week) at the affiliated training centre. After two years it turned out that we could reasonably swim the four strokes but didn't get better at a certain point.
The vast majority of children learn to swim in primary school.

Yes, swimming is done a lot here either at a professional or amateur level. The Australian team did very well at the Olympics last year evidenced by our medal haul in the pool, it was certainly great to watch and see them do so well.

I'd never swim in a river again unless my life depended on it. 😲
I knew a teenage lad who jumped into a canal during a hot summer, what he didn't know was under the filthy water was a load of junk, he almost got impaled on a metal bar, he suffered a nasty chest injury instead which I guess is better than being impaled.

It got to 40.8 degrees today, 26 degrees expected tonight before 41 degrees forecast for tomorrow. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all forecast to be 39 degrees, Sunday is 37 at this stage. Mid 20's overnight expected too so going to be warm for a few days.
