Streker was going to Omega - think he may have even signed but then went to McKinnon when they upped the $$$$.

Appears McKinnon going all out to brake the "middle of the table" finishes which they are famous for.

Streker went back to play with his mates, with minimal to irrelevent funds to assist with juniors. Omega was a working arrangement that didn't meet the time frame for this season, not a highest bidder scenario kind of person. Dale could be a match winner on his day, but checking his premier career he can be a bit hot or cold.

Will be interesting to see how both go, checked Dale's record and it hasnt been flash (HS of 50 over 5 or 6 seasons) and not sure if Streker played 1s? If they can fire McKinnon are a definete shot, depending on their Pom.

I doubt they would have any money for another pom to come out.

Streker played 1 20/20 1's game dnb & dnb and half 2's and 3's. can only assume specialist fielder. Knowing what they're both on, there will be plenty of cash for Barmy's, i was more concerned about player points.

Re: 2010 / 11 general chat.

Parkville Districts have left the VTCA and have gone to play social cricket in the Mercantile comp. They should enjoy and be successful playing teams like Carnegie thirds.

At least they will get umpires there Southern!!

I am not a big wrap for that competition but I am the first to give credit where credit is due, and this is one area in which the VTCA are unable to compete against the MCA.

While it is true that the VTCA does have many more teams competing than the MCA (although with clubs like Sth Yarra and now Parkville Districts withdrawing all teams who knows how much longer this will be), it is a sad indictment on the competition when 1st XI's are getting one umpire and 2nd XI's are getting none. Yet in the MCA all XI's are supplied with an umpire.

Disappointing to see any club leave.

Parkville had their moments in NTH B.

However they were largely moderate in NTH A, making atleast 1 finals series, being competitive a couple of seasons and struggled for a couple of years.

Their seconds were more even in their performances from memory.

Relied heavily on bairnbridge's allround ability? & peitsh's bowling in their couple of competitive years in NTH A.

Not a big loss in terms of standard of cricket they provided VTCA ranks but loss nonetheless - seeing any club leave. Plus their afternoon teas were always great!!

Re: 2010 / 11 general chat.

Mercantile are a weird bunch. It's a very clicky comp.

The foundation teams get special treatment it seems. Good luck to the VTCA teams that join, cos they'll need it.

One of the reasons they get umpires is cos it's always "report to grounds", hence even if it has been raining for 3 days straight, an umpire knows he just has to rock up to the ground, get paid, and go home.

Yep they played on black Saturday, they don't really have a heat policy. Their policy is play cricket at all costs.

In most comps, Round 1 is disrupted cos grounds aren't ready. Not in the Mercantile CA. They just whack every game on Fawkner Park, play 35 over a side matches on both Saturday and Sunday and start them at 9.00am to fit them in.

One year I believe the Saturday night was the change over for daylight savings, so clocks obviously go forward an hour, game was to start at 9.00am, which was really 8.00am on everyones "body clock". But hey, it's all good, MCA got that all important round 1 game played.

Their finals play something like 100 overs in the day.

It's remarkable for a comp that is full of "park cricketers".

Do not know much about the comp, but I am guessing that they don't have juniors. If they start games that early, juniors cant play seniors then. My old club would have to forfeit teams as they are filled with juniors. Sounds very clicky if they dont think of the future lol

given "us" is plural, then i am pretty sure "are" would be correct in Sledge's statement.

if it were a "he/she is/isn't perfect" then is would be the singular.

For example:

"the umpires (plural) are making a decision" or the umpire (singular) is making a decision" (depending on which grade you play in I suppose??;) )

Anyway, fixtures are up, season is fast approaching and its time for the coherent cricket discussions to return! :p

Re: 2010 / 11 general chat.

Love your enthusiasm, however I'm not sure when proper use of the English language became pretentious.

Play on.
