Australia in South Africa

Re: Australia in South Africa

I really don't mind McDonald, but Id prefer neither. JJ Krejza is the man of the future.

Re: Australia in South Africa

Top knock North, top knock. Johnson will now score 100 while North scores 250. Then we will be in a commanding possie this match.

You honestly think McDonald's military pace bowling is good enough to help us take 20 wickets as the 4th bowler? Against the best Test side in the world?

I have nothing against the bloke and hope he plays well but it had to be either him or North, we are too short on bowling with this side IMO.

Once again Kram, you chime in with some remark about how McDonald's not good enough. But offer nothing to back it up. I'll make it easy for you: Who is good enough?

Your mate Bundy doesn't offer much to the argument either, though I can agree he may be onto something when he says McDonald's duck "won't help". Well hoo-rah! At least that's something.

I put the figures up last night about Bollinger. Either you explain why his bowling has proven less effective than the man you're canning, or give me someone fit who should be there. (Note: Should you say "anyone", then may I suggest you go back to surfing bmx websites.)

Re: Australia in South Africa

Honestly, would you rather Bollinger/Mcgain or Mcdonald as your 4th bowler.
And we've already got North as the all-rounder,so theres no need for Mcdonald.

Fair enough Bundy, at least that's a start. My point is that McDonald has clearly a better First Class bowling record than Bollinger, plus the added bonus of being able to hold a bat the right way round. The tail would be awfully long with Bollinger, which we could cope with, but I'm asking is he any better of a bowler anyway? Go back to their debut Test, look up all the figures you want, and convince me/anyone why Bollinger is the man.

Re: Australia in South Africa

Well if Ponting wants to play the entire series then McDonald had to play ahead of Bollinger

Besides he was a much better bowler in Sydney, keeps the runs down, can bowl long spells and will hit the cracks

But the South African spinners seemed to be doing alright considering this pitch was supposed to not take any spin at all, sure only the 1 wicket but they are both rubbish yet getting plenty of turn

Re: Australia in South Africa

Marcus North is my hero, 117, what a gun. Johnson batted well too and was unlucky to be left stranded there.

Soutn Africa are 2/17 in reply. Johnson removed Smith for a duck in the first over and Hilfenhaus got Amla for one in the very next over with his second ball in test cricket. 10,000 test runs for Jacques Kallis too, a super achievement, first ever South African to do so.

What a start by Australia, I don't think anyone expected this.

For the record, Nannes will be 32 on May 16th by the way.

Really? If Bollinger played instead of McDonald, the final four would read as,

Johnson
Siddle
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

Johnson can almost be classified as a bowling all-rounder now, his 96 today has proved he is a performer with both bat and ball. Even Siddle is capable of hanging around at times. I wouldn't say the tail would be long at all with Bollinger there and I don't think his batting should be a factor at all if we pick him as he's there to take wickets, not score runs.
