To be fair, he had that batsmen stone dead a ball or two before. How in the world was that not given out?

Billy wouldnt have gotten out of Mohali alive after he fired Gambhir out and what happened at the other end with Sharma

66 runs to win, this is getting tense.

Johnson has been bowling the best so far IMO, but to no avail wicket-wise.

Hilfenhaus and Bollinger have 3 each and both bowling very well as well, so is Hauritz. Good bowling performance so far.

Now all that stands in the way is a very good last innings scorer Laxman. If India win this they will be extremely happy.

Hauritz was pathetic in the second innings, in fact he was pretty poor for the entire game, his only wickets were that of Zaheer Khan (twice) and an injured VVS Laxman in the first innings.

Hardly anything to write home about and it shows how poor Australia's spin stocks are at the moment when Hauritz is our best spinner by a fair margin. The worst thing for Hauritz is that Marcus North outbowled him in the first innings and he's only a part-timer.

Pathetic is a bit strong.

He was bowling against, well, the 2nd best batsmen the game has ever seen. And VVS Laxman. He was leaking runs, and had to be removed from the attack. It happens.

Hauritz is a steady operator who can complement a strong seam attack.

Nevertheless, we need to click with what we have got.

Look to be honest, I really don't care that we lost. In the scheme of things, this is a pointless series. It was so close, it could have gone either way.

This was a great match and hopefully it will give test cricket a bit of a boost.

The umpiring was appalling; both sides benefitted at certain times. However, the great finish should not cloud the fact that the referral system needs to be introduced across teh board. It is an absolute disgrace that this is not the case.

The two umpires are out in the blazing heat, for 5 days straight. Lets make their job easier. It is absolutely bewildering that India doesn't have the referral system, considering the uproar that was associated with the Sydney test a few years. India can easily afford it, I think their refusal to use it relates to the fact that the Indian players can never choose the right time to use it.

Im concerned about the injury to Doug Bollinger, especially with the Ashes 50 odd days away.

Looks like Peter George will make his debut in the next test, unless the selectors decide to play 2 spinners. But with Hauritz's performance in this match that is unlikely.

The pitch is likely to be an absolute road to ensure a draw and an Indian series victory.

Therefore, I'd be tempted to play Smith in place of North and go in with a legspinner to give us a total of 6 bowlers to use.

Whatever happens; North needs to be ejected.

I'll be really surprised if North gets ejected.

I was surprised, which is putting it nicely, that Punter didn't bowl Clarke. With his record against the Indians, surely he was worth a twirl at some point during the day?

Still it was a great test.

It may be a meaningless series, but it isn't going to do anything for the bowlers self-belief that they can finish off teams. It could actually be very damaging in those terms.

Hauritz was unlucky in my opinion and had bad field settings. I would prefer they play a couple around the bat and then four sweepers. The Indians want to go after him, so let them but remain attacking at the same time.

We missed Bollinger after lunch and Watson/North should have been attempted before lunch and maybe Clarke, when there was still runs to play with and without the threat of one bad over costing the game.

Sharma wasn't tested really, I didn't see one yorker to him. They bowled too straight to Laxman, who they should have bored to death by bowling wide of off stump with a defensive off side field.

Otherwise in general it was pretty good effort to have the opportunity to win the game after an ordinary second innings and poor start to third day.

It was an excellent effort at the same time as proving that the Aussies haven't got tough heads for pressure anymore. It's there for all to see now if it wasn't completely clear before.

I think the dispute is more wide ranging than that and is about how much the ICC and TV companies pay towards the technology. Not sure though.

Bollinger is 'almost certainly' out for the next Test.

This means Peter George is most likely to make his debut. Mitchell Starc is there too but George has always seemed ahead in line than him. Pattinson at the moment is just there as a spectator.

It's going to be interesting to see how George gets on.

Peter George comes into the side for Dougie.

Big Watson once again in fine form with the bat, Australia 95 runs without loss at lunch.

Reasonably even I'd say with Australia 5 for 285. North 43no, he seems to have a knack of getting runs when he at least should be getting close to being dropped.

7/456, North on 127.

Ohja leads the Indian bowlers with three wickets, Harbhajan has two. The seamers have had little impact thus far.

North has scored his maiden useful century, good on him.

Now there's a wall of experience and non-experience just piling on runs. Tendulkar makes his 49th century, it's hard to fathom. By the way he's going by lunch tomorrow he might have effectively but not technically brought up his 50th by posting a double century. Murali Vijay has really shown some class as well, although he has offered up a couple of chances. Paine's dropped chance was very hard but one would think a keeper like Marsh, Healy or Gilchrist would have made it look easy, it would be good to have a more specialist keeper in the side again.

3 quick wickets for Australia 2 to from debutant George, India 8 down with a lead of 16. Some pretty variable bounce and the bowlers getting some nice reverse going on out there. Hopefully we will see some sort of contest and maybe a result.

India all out at lunch with the tail collapsing losing 5 wickets for only 9 runs. With 5 sessions still left and it looking to be hard work batting out there atm maybe we will get lucky and get a decent finish again.

Been a while since last post... all the Australians must be mourning :D

Australia lose the series 2-0, but the score line doesn't really show just how close fought that series was. They are two very even sides, plus the series should have been a four match one, meaning the last two would probably once again been riveting and close fought. Cricket fans have been let down here by the scheduling of this series.

Good signs for both sides I think from that series. With India being notoriously strong in India and Australia very strong at home, I don't think it's going out on a limb to say Australia would probably bring home a series in Australia if they played again now.

Now onto what should have been a three match ODI series that has now turned into a two match series due to the first being rained out. Both sides are resting players, particularly Australia with three front-runners out for the rest of the series. So lots of debutantes to get a first look at the two best ODI sides in the world currently... let's see who has the greater depth.
